Default Thinking of dyeing my hair...

I haven't done anything with my hair in a year and I'm starting to get really bored. I think I want to go back to my dark brown but don't want to damage my hair because I've made such good progress on my growth in the last year. Are there any dyes that are more gentle on hair besides henna? I can't get henna easily where I am.

What's your current hair color, Eastbound&Down? I you want to go darker, there are multiple deposit-only temporary options that are damage-free, including herbal/plant-based rinses and commercial dyes like Manic Panic, Directions...

You and your hair look so lovely, Eastbound&Down! I wouldn't change a thing!
If you really want to go darker, why not research Manic Panic/Directions or other temporary non-damaging dyes? For example, there is a on-going discussion that might be of interest and you can see some photos there that could be of help: Manic Panic on undyed/unbleached hair? - http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/...ad.php?t=17602

Seconding Manic Panic and related deposit-only dyes. They are basically dye in a conditioner base and so are absolutely non-damaging (unless you bleach first, which would not be necessary if you're going darker).

If you do end up going for more permanent dyes, consider using semi-permanent. Demi-permanent and permanent dyes both contain developer, which is essentially bleach and most definitely will cause at least some damage (probably a fair amount on your hair as you're an F/M/i/ii).

I wouldn't go with henna as a) it's very, very permanent and b) it is pretty much always a bit red/orangeish rather than proper brown (even henndigo can tend to have a red cast in bright light).

Thanks for the advice and compliments I just recently have started to get bored with the way my hair has been exactly the same for so long and while it's healthy I think it'll be easier for me in the long run if I make a color change as opposed to a cut.

Herbatint is my personal favorite- I buy it from a local health food store and they seem to have it in stock at most health food stores. I actually feel like this hair-dye makes my hair more healthy. It contains all natural, herbal ingredients and leaves my hair very shiny with amazing color. They sell both permanent and semi-permanent hair dyes. http://www.herbatintusa.com/index.aspx
