I just manipulate it while drying with the hairdryer. Indeed, I'm contemplating learning how to do it properly, now that I'm mot activelly growing my hair anymore. I fear heat damage tho.
Congratulations on bcl! Despite the last few inches your hair looks pretty full. I'm sure thickness will travel down with time.

Thank you kindly ArtOfNoot! You think my hair is auburn? Not being English, I´m not sure that I quite understand what color auburn is, I couldn´t translate it accurately into my language.
Thank you so much Kelp! Haha, yes, it is good to remind ourselves from time to time that our hair is indeed sooo long
Thank you Bri-Chan! Yes, I am hoping that with more regular dustings I will be able to improve my ends a bit.
Thank you jenniferrae! I like to see this thread active too.
Nefcerka,
Jumping in to say that auburn is like a mix between red and brown. So saying your hair has warm undertones (red undertones). Very pretty!

I remembered that thread and went back to reread it and I think it only led to more questions! Back in 2014 and 2019 there were all different opinions on where exactly BCL and TBL are.
Now that we're nearly in 2024, does anyone feel up for reviving the conversation to see if it's changed?I have always understood BCL to be the top of your bum crack, and TBL to be the bottom of your tailbone. For me, TBL is about an inch lower than BCL. However, I do like the point that someone made in the discussion thread in which we don't call hip length at the bottom of the hips and we don't call calf length at the bottom of the calves, so why do many people consider TBL to be at the bottom of the tailbone? If calling TBL at the top of the tailbone was the standard, I think I could do away with BCL completely which is definitely tempting.
Kelp, bubbles, and selkie hair troubles.
Thank you very much for your comment, Chasemi!![]()
My hair has definitely warm glint to it (which the picture does not show because sun never shines in this room, lol). I have a strange coloring - my face tends to prefer only cool complimentary tones (I looked horrible in orange/red eye shadow or blush), but my hair has always been warm-tinted and somehow it works.
I don´t think this can be decided once and for all unequivocally. I tend to lean towards BCL and TBL separation, TBL is about 2 inches lower than BCL on me. To me it´s an opportunity for better measurements with more definable milestones. If I merged them into one, I´d face a butt abyss![]()

I keep forgetting to check this thread (since it's kind of separate from the "mane" forum). I am soooooo close to waist length with the longest hairs in back but not quite there yet. Perhaps in a month or two, I can change my length designation from "MBL" to "WL" (though it's tempting to round up)!
One thing though--the hair hanging down the front side of my shoulders is never as long as the hair in back, though I'm guessing that's because the center point of hair growth is more towards the back of the head.
And I checked out a few of the recent photos in this thread...
Nefcerka--great length and thick almost all the way to the ends! And that auburn color is quite rich.
Ylva--nice hair as always! I saw your comment about anything longer than waist length is long (again, getting close here!), though overall the LHC might think hair isn't long until past hip length. For awhile, I've been feeling like long is always a couple inches longer than what I had at the time, and I'm sure that feeling will continue, and that's probably been felt by many others too.
Brandt - I think you can safely move here with *can I call this waist* length - we all understand how you feelI also scrolled back in this thread and apparently chocolate was handed out upon reaching a milestone, so here is one for you:
(vegan, of course).
The point where the tailbone pokes out is a clear one, so I use that one for myself. If someone doesn’t agree with your marker’s location, I’m guessing they’re at least not going to go look for anything else.
Thank you kindly, Brandt! I don’t think that was my comment - at least I don’t recognise those as my words. It might have been Dark40. My hair didn’t feel long to me even close to knee, so I don’t think “long” is even attainable to me.![]()

You're right, Ylva--looking back, I see it was Dark40 when commenting on your picture who said that! I've done worse though--I've accidentally mixed up who have said things in person (like at work) before--that can definitely get awkward. (I must "awkwardly" admit that I'm a bit awkward sometimes, but then most everybody has done what I just described in the previous sentence too! And did the fact that I just said that prove that I'm awkward? And did my asking about that prove yet again? And did my asking about asking about that...."repeat 100 times")
Thanks for the vegan chocolate! I have a bunch right now on hand since my favorite brand of vegan chocolate is on sale right now at one of the stores that I frequent!
