So I've been dealing with horrible scraggly ends that were increasingly Velco-y and resistant to every intervention I tried. I've been slowly cutting out damage from heat styling and dye for a while now, and I'm pretty sure this was the last of it!!! I ended up cutting off six inches, from just classic to tailbone. It was a tough decision but my hair looks and feels soooooo much better :D

Here's the pictorial evidence:

After I got home and have it all a good oiling:

That's quite a bit of length to lose, but in the first pic, you can almost see the velcro-y ends, so yes, all in all: good decision! It looks really shiny and nice! :D

Your ends look so much healthier now! It's so hard to cut off all that length, but at least now you know your hair can grow to classic (and probably beyond) and it will be in better condition next time it gets there.

Congrats! I just did the same in january i know how hard it is but its been worth it not having to fight with my hair. Happy growing!

Thanks so much guys!!! I've been agonizing over it for literally months! But once I got the blowout (I'll happily submit to some heat for a dry cut, I regularly have waves and loose curls so I rarely see it straight ) and saw how awful the ends had really gotten, it was easy to say goodbye :D

Your hair looks much healthier now. Isn't it much easier to work with? Now that your hair is healthier, you'll be back at your pre-cut length in no time.

Very pretty! I've had to do the same several times. I can never keep my hair at classic length (much less beyond). No matter what I do, the ends always turn to dry Velcro.

Beautiful hair and good decision! I know you lost a lot of length, but it's not immediately apparent since damage can give the illusion of shorter hair.

Just did the same thing...sometimes we're in denial when it comes to needing a trim, but when you take the pic and see the reality, you have to do what's best for your hair. If the ends don't show the beauty of your hair as a whole, they need to go! I'm starting out fresh after 3 yrs without a trim. Lost 5 inches and now I'm at 25 1/2 but the look is amazing. Your hair looks really great!!

Glad you posted this. It seems as though when my hair hits below tailbone level I can't easily braid it. I thought it was just that couple extra inches, tangling up; but thinking back - I haven't done an SMT in a year or so. Maybe I just need to do a deeeeeep conditioning. I've been doing the castor oil conditioning & takes long enuf! :} By the way - your hair look luxurious.
