Interesting study. After all some people use black coffee with henna.
I found this article and thought it might be useful.

I'm wondering what the best way of doing this would be.....i initially thought coffee rinses, but then wondered if anyone had any other ideas that were less darkening....though if it improves growth i'm happy to use coffee.

Very interesting. But I was kind of disappointed, I was hoping the article would say that drinking coffee was good for hair growth.
I may experiment with adding coffee to my shampoo and/or conditioner, though - I wonder if that'll work.
I was hoping that it involved drinking it too because If so Im okay
I did do a coffee rinse a few weeks ago. My hair loved it. I will have to repeat if this is what happens I think
Fascinating!
I do use coffee in my henna treatments, and I do have pretty nice growth.

I could not access the following study through your link but did find it elsewhere.
"Follicular Penetration of Topically Applied Caffeine via a Shampoo Formulation
Results: After 2 min, caffeine penetrated .... hair follicles and stratum corneum. Conclusion: .... the penetration via hair follicles .... faster and higher compared with .... hair follicles .... only pathway for fast caffeine absorption during the first 20 min after application."

Some guideline questions and answers - IMO.

In the first study - very little caffeine was needed - to get results.
I do not doubt the shampoo study but IMO, the application is not hair friendly.
From what I have read by Paula Begoun, it is not recommended to leave any shampoo on the hair for long periods of time - the surfactants can cause the hair shaft to get very dry.
IMO, it would be beter to add a small amount of coffee to conditioner or a herbal rinse - that way you get the caffeine benefits without the possible added colour or drying effects of the coffee alone. I do not think a coffee rinse, which has been reported to be drying, is necessary.

I still think that shampoo is not the way to go with this but the caffeine pill is a brilliant idea! IMO - added to conditioner or a herbal rinse though or just water alone.
Ooooo........ no harm adding coffee to my henna mix, I'll start doing that and see what it does. Maybe crushing up a no-doze pill and putting it into a deep treatment that sits on for a while might work too...... ideas ideas LOL
