    Default Tea Tree Special Shampoo

I have really liked this shampoo by Paul Mitchell called Tea Tree Special Shampoo. I was wondering if any of you have heard of it, tried it, or liked it? Also, I thought I would list the ingredients. If there is anything in it that someone wouldn't want to put on their own hair to then I would like to know.

    Awapuhi extract
    Tetrasodium EDTA
    Citric acid
    Panthenol
    Propylparaben
    Methylparaben
    Glycol stearate
    FD&C (or D&C) Yellow #5
    Methylisothiazolinone
    FD&C Blue #1
    Sodium chloride
    Water
    Lavender oil
    Peppermint oil
    Spike lavender oil
    Sodium laureth sulfate
    PEG-150 distearate
    Oleamidopropyl betaine
    Methylchloroisothiazolinone
    Polyquaternium-7
    Linoleamide DEA
    Cocoamidopropylbetaine
    Jojoba wax
    Cocamide DEA
    Wheat germ oil
    Keratin, hydrolyzed
    Rosemary extract
    Chamomile extract
    Henna extract
Melaleuca alternifolia extract (Tea tree oil)
    Aloe barbadensis/vera extract/gel
    Kelp extract

I also like to use something to detangle my hair and they have a gel called "Tea Tree firm hold gel" I thought I might try.

If you have a hard time pronouncing it, does it really belong in your hair? That is quite a long list of chemicals, but I am biased. I am trying to eliminate as many chemicals from my personal care products as possible. Did you follow any of the links you posted? I am just starting the Morrocco Method and have seen great results in only about a week of use.

Everything in shampoo is a chemical. The only difference is where they got it from. Don't be scared of things you can't pronounce; that's more than a bit silly. I can pronounce "hydrocyanic acid", but I sure wouldn't be putting it on my hair. If you're worried, look them up. (If you don't use them regularly, there's somethign called an MSDS, which stands for material safety and data sheet. Practically everything you ever encounter will have one, from glucose to gyprock, and they can be found on the internet. For example, benzaldehyde.)

That said, this is perhaps one of the most benign ingredients lists I've read, from a health point of view. From a hair point of view, I don't know. It only occurred to me the other day that paraffin is obviously a terrible thing to think about putting on hair. Still, none of this immediately screams suspicious... A lot of the really weird looking names are just thickening and emulsifying agents.

I have used a tea tree shampoo before, but not that one. I found it a little harsh for my (very sensitive) scalp, but my brothers use it now and say it's great (no flaking, no dryness -- tea tree is a potent antifungal and antibacterial.)

I try to stay away from SLS and colors in my products (like FD&C Yellow #5 & FD&C Blue #1 in this shampoo) so I don't think I'd use it personally. I try to use products with as short of ingredient lists that still work well that I can find. Desert Essence makes a great tea tree shampoo which I've used in the past.

    Ingredients:
Purified Water, Cocamide MEA, Organic Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Orbignya Oleifera (Babassu) Seed Oil, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, (Geranium) Maculatum Oil, Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Flower Oil, Sodium Salt, Methylparaben, and Citric Acid.

Y'know, I just noticed something suspicious about this shampoo, which I hadn't picked up before. Did you post the ingredients in the same order they appeared on the bottle? If you did, that hardly has any tea-tree in it. Why are they calling it Tea-Tree Special shampoo? Is this like "Special Bell Peppers and Beef"?

I really hope not! It would mean that this shampoo is mostly preservatives and color.

I've used this shampoo and conditioner before, a few years ago. At the time I really liked to use it and especially loved the smell. However, I can't give you a thumbs up or down on this product At the time I did not pay attention to hair health, so can't say whether or not this is a good product or not.
