Thread: Blue-black hair color with indigo?

  1. #1

Default Blue-black hair color with indigo?

So I reaaaallly want to dye my hair with indigo to get blue-black hair, but I already have henna'd mahogany hair. I've never used indigo before. I'd be OK with purple black too. Just not anything that could pass as dark brown. My natural color is brown, hence why my hair is mahogany and not regular red.

Is it possible for me to achieve a color like that with indigo?

Totally possible. You can get blond hair black with henna and indigo in a two-step.

Before you do it, though, think long and hard about it. The two-step process is a major time commitment, and you will not be able to bleach the indigo out if you decide you don't like it. (It has a strong tendency to turn a muddy green on those who try.)

I would honestly not recommend indigo to anyone who doesn't have black or very cool toned dark brown hair to begin with if they are not 100% they will never have to grow it out, personally i think it ruins an entire head of bautiful hair if you did that onece you get sick of it.
The blue tones are really not that noticable after the first or maybe second wash, but i boost them with a deposit dye on top.
I hope you are making the right choice.

I have over 2 lbs of henna, so I've decided to stick with reddish brown for a while and see if I still want black hair when I'm done with it.
I tried a photo editor and I looked kind of washed out with black hair, but I tried on a wig and it looked totally natural both indoors and out.

I've just *always* wanted that super intense blue black hair, and I love how herbal dyes don't kill your hair. I'm worried because I've seen mixed results of black henndigo. Like some have the purple and blue colors and some look kind of flat.

Here's a good example of the blue/purple kind done with henndigo: http://www.hennaforhair.com/mixes/dafne/

You'll need henna to get black too. Indigo without henna makes a funny gray. Henna mixed with indigo makes shades of brown; indigo layered over henna gives black.

What if you tried to tone your hair with a wash out color? Sounds like you are close to black but just not dark enough. Maybe a dark blue or do that have black manic panic? That way it would wash out if you don't like it...

As someone growing out hendigo, granted it's not long yet, I'd be really sure you want to do it because you can't bleach it out. Some people have luck with things like color oops or colorb4.

I might do that, just to test it. Are those bad for hair?

Nope, deposit dyes don't affect the structure in any way, they just coat the hair on the ouside and wash off. Sre there are differences in quality between all those brands, but some are actually having sort of a treatmeant built in while the color payoff is pretty great and lasts a while. You should check out Pravana Chromasilk. I'm personally not a fan of drugstore brands or manic panic/la riche directions.

Pravana's good stuff for longer term. I mostly suggest Manic Panic because it's cheap, available, and it is one of the more temporary ones. Easy to switch from that to a more permanent form if you like it.

I've recently gone darker with very indigo-heavy hendigo glosses over my burgundy/auburn hair to yield a very dark brown. I'm in your boat and wanted black (BLACK lol) but tried out some after midnight blue manic panic first to see if I liked it. It's definitely blue black without a hint of red, even in the sun:

I absolutely love it with my cool-toned fair/medium skin and am planning a two-step. My hair has been black more times than any other color so I know I'm cool with it. Just ordered 300 g of red raj and 300 g of indigo which should hold me over for a long while . Why not try after midnight blue first, before really taking the plunge?
