I am still using the first jar I bought (old formula), it's about halfway done now. I have 2 "new" ones waiting for me. I was hoping it was thicker, because it is so darn runny, and if it is pretty much the same, I don't think I'd mind the thicker consistency.

I've been researching for a new deep conditioner to try when I came across review s from the Shea Moisture dt masque. So many people are complaining about a burning and itchy scalp, hair fall, the product not simply working.

Tf did this company sell out to?

If it's the JBCO mask, I can't agree with those reviews at least. I don't apply it on my scalp so I wouldn't know about that, but it works great for me, nor would it cause hair fall for me since it doesn't come in contact with my scalp. My jars are the new formula.

Kind of an "odd" conclusion, based on 1 reviewed product, no?

Besides, just like Ylva, I never ever put a mask or conditioner on the scalp. It will make your hair oilier faster and with long hair, I don't want to be washing every couple days.

I'm talking about the raw Shea butter one.

It's not an "odd" conclusion when it is the exact same thing that happened to me and my scalp is still suffering from. I checked multiple reviews on multiple sites and an overwhelming amount are extremely negative with this new formula.

I've been using this product for years, the same way it has never caused such reaction like these last two jars did.

I feel people are allowed to be disappointed in a company when they change a perfectly good product that worked for so many for so many years without a single heads up or a f*ing new formula sticker on the jar.

Sooo I just put the JBCO mask on my wish list but now I'm seeing it's a bit controversial...

Anyway, I find it a bit difficult pinpointing which Shea Moisture line would be best for me since I'm sort of in between on everything. I'm not protein sensitive but I'm not overly dry either (though the climate is rough and dry around here so I need some moisture), I'm not wavy and not straight... I like the JBCO line "in theory" because they have coating and penetrating proteins, plus an amino acid, as well as not a massive amount of humectants, but I'm thinking using the shampoo, conditioner AND masque might be a bit much protein for me? Usually I use a shampoo and two conditioners so I thought going with the entire line would make sense in one way... I dunno, the only time I've reacted to proteins was with henna, which isn't even a protein but AFAIK it can make protein sensitive hairs act up? I've never really had a good reaction or a bad one in regards of protein-y shampoos and conditioners.

    What do you guys think?

I think the JBCO line is meant to go together, so it basically should be no problem.

I am still using the last of my JBCO (old formula) leave-in, but then I have 2 tubs of the new formula. I don't think it changed *that* much TBH, so I'm not worried one bit.

    But it's up to you.

If you are going to be using the leave-in, just think, less (waaay less) is more. I use 2 small fingertip dollops (like small coin sizes) for classic length heavily layered hair, and you really don't need much at all. So go slowly with it!

I hadn't used Shea Moisture products in the past, but recently tried the JBCO masque (new/ACV formulation) and am extremely happy with it. The masque rinses out easily and thoroughly and my hair doesn't feel particularly "heavy" afterward, just nice and slippy. As for scalp itch, I did get an itchy scalp this past week, but I don't think the Shea Moisture masque was to blame. I've been using it for around a month with no issues, and last week I made a different change to my routine of the kind that has historically set off my picky scalp ( ; Tweaked again this week, used the masque again, no itch so far.

It is definitely protein-heavy, though, and the other things I'm using currently are all moisture-heavy. Seems to work out to a nice balance in my case. It's too expensive for me to use as regularly as I have, but I'm thinking of buying another tub once this one is gone and keeping it on hand for more occasional use.

I just use the JBCO mask, it's definitely a winner but quite heavy on the proteins so even I don't need to use it that often despite having chemically damaged lengths. I used to use the leave-in, too, but I found a better alternative for myself. I don't see any point in using the shampoo or the conditioner, I have more fitting alternatives there as well.
