Thread: The Shea Moisture Thread

Anyone familiar with the difference between coconut hibiscus kids curling butter cream and coconut hibiscus curl enhancing smoothie? I recall picking the kids one for several reasons, i thought it’s smell was more coconut and less complicated with other fragrance than the smoothie version, and the kids one was a smaller container so easier to throw in a bag and less product to waste if I ended up not liking it. However, I LOVE this product, every time I try a different leave-in I regret it, a little goes a LONG way, and I’ve used it a few times as a deep conditioner which worked great too.

I am thinking of trying the smoothie next time because they come in larger containers mostly, so less plastic waste. But maybe the kids formula works so well for me and the ‘adult’ Version somehow won’t? For example, my hair is baby fine, closer to spider webs than any fiber so is the kids formulated for toddler fine hair, or maybe just less additives like extra fragrance…

Perhaps I should not mess with a good thing and repurchase the kids one

I have no idea. Never knew there was a kid's version!

well. It’s a great product! It comes in 6oz/170g tub, which is rather small in my opinion, but since I only use a Pea size 2x a week, it is lasting a very long time… I think I’ve it for nearly a year and there’s a good amount left, i’d think a few more months? It smells really nice, like fresh coconut oil slightly enhanced with a light sweetness and floral background so it doesn’t smell like cake batter or overly vanilla-sweet.

I may have just convinced myself into buying it again instead of trying a different product

Why mess with a good thing! If it works, it works.

    NAME CHANGE?
Would anyone know if the name has changed for the deep treatment masque/deep moisturizing masque?

On the SM website itself, it shows a picture for moisturizing with the title for treatment. The label looks pretty much identical except for the name, and I haven't done an item by item cross check in the ingredients list.

I just wanted to know for future online ordering. I tried sending an email via the website, but I never have any luck with that (the email never sends).

Did you ever figure this out?

I am in the US & Target online lists the product as deep treatment masque, but the image displayed says deep moisturizing masque. So they seem to be one and the same by looking online, but I haven’t used their deep treatments for many years so I can’t remember if the packaging changed

I've just run out of my deep treatment masque, I hope they didn't change the formula!

I just acquired a bottle of the manuka honey and mafura oil intensive hydration conditioner , a free find. I haven’t used it yet, has anyone had good luck with this conditioner? I like the idea that it has ‘intensive hydration’ in the name. Other products that market similarly work well for me… will probably use it as a first condition in my WCC ti get a feel for it first, but just curious

I was just doing some online shopping because I'm about to run out of the "extra moisture detangler" from that same line, and it looks like they slightly changed the name, as well as the formula of the detangler. I wouldn't be shocked if they did the same thing with the other products in the line, a slight name change along with a formula change :/

I'm definitely going to buy the new formula of the detangler because it's basically one of my favorite after-shower products (followed by olaplex #6 and some oil, the combination makes my hair feel incredible like nothing else), but.... I'm also now on the lookout for a product to potentially replace the detangler just in caase the new formula is a complete miss. Based off of reviews on their website, people don't seem happy that they changed the formula, so hopefully they bring it back, but hopes are low. It also sucks because they discontinued one of my other favorite products a few years ago and I haven't found anything quite close enough since then.

Overall though, I really like Shea Moisture, as long as I don't get anything that's too heavy for my hair (which is getting easier since I've been reading/learning about ingredients for quite a few years now).

When the Shea Moisture range launched in the Uk a number of years ago I swore by the castor oil shampoo but then they changed the formula of not just their shampoo but the conditioner and leave-in too and I could not for the life of me get the stuff rinsed out of my hair.

So it became a huge no-no for me. All these years later I still won't use Shea Moisture.
