    Default Topical Gelatin

Has anyone have had experience before with the topical use of gelatin on hair? I am thinking of trying it as hair gel. What else

Gelatin is a hydrolyzed protein, and I believe that hydrolyzed proteins are what penetrates the hair. Gelatin may also be keratin. I have been looking to buying pure keratin, but decided that if gelatin works, might as well use that. Hopefully protein works with the coconut oil I already use on hair.
I remember reading about pouring some gelatin in the shampoo. I tried but it didn't seem to do much for my hair. Leave-in and hair gel, no idea. I just PMed a member today who wrote about a gelatin based gel she made because I have yet to find The Hairgel I Like. No answer yet.

I heard that gelatine is good for hair and nail but I never tried it .

I used it on the number of occasions. If you want to give it a go (it's quite cheap after all) then dilute it very well if you shampoo, otherwise your hair might be glued and difficult to deal with. All the effect I've ever seen was the shine. I prefer it on my face and in my food.
I LOVE keratin! I put it in my shampoos and condis that I make. It gives me a feeling of super extra smooth cuticles, I think it also makes my hair fluffier.

I tried gelatin in my hair with the coconut oil I normally use. My hair feels thicker. My hair is very shiny as well. I tried making hair styling gel with only gelatin and water, but that left my hair too stiff. I think oil helps deliver the protein to the hair without doing it damage.

How many times do you keratin your hair? I heard that too much protein is bad for hair.
It's because I come up with some stuff too It's collagen which is in the most creams nowadays, so... there's the clue It makes my skin soft and calms it down a bit. Gelatin can smooth out tiny wrinkles too (at least on me).

Too much moisture is bad for hair too. How often and how much you need depends only on your hair. I do it only as much as my hair likes. And it loves protein, it definately prefers it over the moisture treatments that I don't have to do as often or go the CO way, for example. That would be the overload, not keratin. If anything it makes my hair smoother... I have keratin in the shampoos, conditioners and make a deep treatment 1-2 times a month.

I haven't heard of too much moisture being bad for hair. Is it because the hair is fragile when it's wet?
Gelatin won't harm your skin, so why not.

It can but it is uncommon here as far as I see. That's why I made many mistakes in the beginning, believing that my hair needed all that moisture. It goes totally flat, limp, feels thin and doesn't look very clean despite being washed. It is stretchy, too stretchy which means that it might overstretch when you handle it. Then it snaps. So indeed it is fragile too.
I think it is a good idea to throw in something moisturizing in a protein treatment. But how much - depends on you.

I meant CO as conditioner only. Too much of coconut oil is probably not bad but gives me a greasy mess that takes about a month to get rid of.
