I think my hair is trying to tell me something..

Ok, so I was doing some S&D latelly and I've noticed I have lots of hairs that do a knot on themselves kinda like the last one out of the types of splits shown here:

Is there anything I can do to avoid that specific type of split? It makes me sad to cut the hair with that on, because sometimes it's almost in the middle of the strand =( and I'm afraid to end up with lots of shorter hairs because of that... I tried "undoing" them with oil, but with no success...
