Oh I love Nigels work. I really want a burl stick too. I wish he would start working with coloured burls. Anyway here are mine.

I know I've posted these before somewhere - I could have sworn there was a thread already started but I can't find it anywhere, and since I can't I might as well post them again!

It's a knot on a tree, probably caused by damage to the tree, or some kind of infection, where the tree grows in an abnormal manner. Burlwood tends to have spectacular and unusual grain patterns, which makes it popular for decorative applications, like hairsticks.

Boo, I love all of those, but particularly the first one... is it a burl? I love the shape!

Lissandria, glad we enabled you! We'll wait for your action pics impatiently...
(btw, I think the last stick of Boo's is purpleheart with a purple acrylic topper... I *might* have drooled over it before it was sold! )

Oops- the first stick is Claret ash and rose myrtle burl; the second is flame sheoak and black glitter acrylic resin; the third is blackwood and amber acrylic resin; and the last is Purpleheart and purple acrylic resin (with a silver ash inlay). I actually have two more I don't have pictures of yet! I am a real fan of his work - I cannot say enough good things about him.

Oh, dfotw, the purpleheart was a custom I asked him for that is a replica of one he had in the shop that was too long for me. So somewhere out there is a version that would work with your glorious hair! (Although I am sure he could remake one for you as well.....)

I absolutely love this shop. I haven't bought anything yet, but I check the store mostly every day and drool over the sticks. *g* Islandboo, that purpleheart one is gorgeous. I've seen a couple of those that I've been so, so close to getting.
