I am keto, kind of heading towards paleo, and flirting with the idea of carnivore.

I know approximately how much protein I need and I'm sure I get there, in normal conditions, even though I don't check/calculate. I'm vegetarian and my model is the Mediterranean diet.

I used to track when I was powerlifting so have a good idea of roughly how much I should be getting.

problem is unless i pay attention and put in effort, I get way way below what I need, because I'm a bit of a carb monster and would rather just eat more carb.

i think i get enough protein maybe 30% of the time currently, on days i remember to try, i try.

I'm vegan so sometimes this topic comes up.
I've sought professional support with my diet, and their stance was that protein is not really an issue. Apparently it's actually pretty difficult to be protein deficient if you have enough food to eat. Protein deficiency is something that only really happens when people are starving.

Though, nutritional needs may differ person to person, of course.

I also don't really believe in tracking things. I just try to eat a variety and decent amount of healthy foods from my main food groups: wholegrains/starchy veg, non-starchy vegetables, fruits, and beans/legumes.

I have tracked in the past and I've always covered the recommended daily intake for protein when I've done this. But I won't track any more. Not good for my mental health.

I'd assume what's considered enough protein intake will vary person to person - but is there a way to check something like that?

In Europe we say one gram of protein per kilo of weight. Which means if you are 60 kilos, you'll need 60 g of protein which is around 200g of meat.

My doctor has me use a phone app called "My Fitness Pal." It's free, although there are ads. You can list the recipes you use by ingredient (a little time-consuming) and it does the math for you.

With a few new restrictions on my diet, I'm back to being way under my ideal protein intake again ) :
