Help it's hot here!

I tend to be a lurker, but I have come out of that to ask for help!

It's getting really hot, and I tend to feel kind of sick and gross with the heat. It has gotten worse now that my hair covers most of my torso!

Um, so the problem is that I need to put my hair up, but I am not too good at that. I can't even braid my own hair without a few tries, and I definitely cannot to a french braid.

Today is especially hot, so I totally tried to put up my hair, but I couldn't even twist my hair enough to get it up there. Once I sort of piled it on my head, I didn't have any clips that could hold it there. I finally asked my mom to put it up for me, so at least it's off of my shoulders for now. Unfortunately, my scalp is kind of sensitive so I am starting to get a headache. Also, I can't just expect my mom to put up my hair for me all the time.

So if anyone has the time to let me know of some easy to do hairstyles that distribute stress on the scalp, it would be REALLY AWESOME.

go check out you tube, search for updo's for long hair, there are ton's and many members from here have wonderful hair tutorials posted there, I was never one to ever play with hair styles or put my hair up til I joined LHC I've learned how to do many updo's and they are fun to watch

Braids and updos just take practice. Experiment when you have the time. The first buns I felt I had mastered were based on pony or pig tails. Make a pony tail, secured with a band then braid this and secure the end. Wrap the braid around, tuck in the end and secure with pins or a large band. It takes a bit of practice to get an updo secured so there aren't any pulled hairs, so just keep trying till you get it.

Another thing that I find comfortable and easy to do with pigtails is once they are braided to cross them across the top of my head and secure with pins. Experiment with where you put the pins until you find something comfortable and secure.

If your mom's hair is long enough, you could practice braiding her hair, I remember learning to braid on my Barbies. It is quite different when applying to your own head, loose pigtail braids may be easier to start with because you can see more of what you are doing in the mirror, rather than working where you can't see anything.

Another tool for the novice updo, are big plastic claw thingies (not sure what their proper name is). They can secure just about any randomly twisted up do. Play around with it until you find something you like and feel is comfortable. I hope that helps out. If you don't have hairsticks you can always use some chopsticks or even some pencils to try out the buns.

Have you looked into hair stick updos? They take a lot less coordination than braiding, and you can do them with pencils until you find/can afford the pretty sticks. Plus they look way more complicated than they are and people are impressed. Plus they get *every* hair off your neck.

Damp buns are my savior in the summer. At your length a peacock twist with a claw clip should be quick and easy. You just have to find the right claw clip for your hair.

It's +28°C / +82.4°F outside. In Finland

I use lazy wrap bun. It's super easy and don't require twisting your hair. My hair is layered mid-back and I could do laxy wrap when I was at bsl.

I do braids when it's cooler, but in the summertime I do stick buns.

Oh 82 would be perfect right now! This 100 degree weather is troubling without air conditioning.

Whatever updo you may do, just be very gentle, especially if it is damp, your hair is very susceptible to damage when it is.

Pic an easy cinnamon bun and practice a lot, try do do it several times until you are able to do it fast, with no mirrors at all.
This is the way I am learning my up dos. I never had long hair before and I am learning them now. Now I can do quick french twists, cinnamon buns, and some others I just created by myself.
We need to practice a lot... as everything in life, we have to learn!
