With our water here, I dare not to go without an acidic rinse. But I forgot to mention that I want to experiment with adding essential oils to the vinegar. I also want to make my own herbal vinegar rinse. So maybe this one works better, scentwise.

edit: I found the Kathleen´s statement why not to use a vinegar rinse: http://sweetcreekherbs.blogspot.com/...nse-or-no.html We will see. ;-)
Very interesting, Myrddin. She seems to have changed her tune on that topic. Hmmmmm...

Well, unfortunately, the shampoo bars aren't working for me like I thought they were. The first time I used one, it was heaven, but now they only work once after I clarify with SLS shampoo. After that, they build up and leave a film. I've tried using vinegar rinses, even really strong ones that are half vinegar and half water. My hair still gets the waxy build up feeling, which does not come out with conditioner only. I don't like the fact that I have to use SLS shampoo every other time I wash, even if my shampoo bar hair is heavenly. I don't want to do that much damage. I have been using CV shampoo bars, so I'm going to try and order some SCH bars to see if they work better. The funny thing is, my water isn't even extremely hard. It is only moderately hard.

Has anyone had an issue like this? Is it just a "transition period"? Any advice? Also, how strong are your vinegar rinses?

No I actually have the same with the CV bars. SCH works for me though : it is really trying different things to find what works for you. For me it's SCH bars no vinegar rinses but conditioner (veganese)

I've found that I have to lather twice with CV bars. I don't get a buildup From using them but I noticed that my hair is cleaner when I lather twice. The same goes if I use Sunleaf Naturals bars. Its not a problem though, I still love the products from both companies. However I only have to lather once when I use the Alpenglow bar. I have soft water though...

glutten for punishment decided to try the shampoo bars again went with CV and ordered some samples.. my hair hates like straw vinegar so wasn't going to use anything..

first try was Carrot milk Honey was low on the lather, did it twice with rinse, Hair felt really dry after water rinses...

followed with Buttery Conditioner nice and lathery silky feel to it twice with rinses, after rinse it felt a little better but still seemed a little dryish..

let my hair towel dry damp, then french twist with my velvet snood to dry the rest of the way..

results.. mmmm best way I could put it is.. when you knit a hat wash it and put it in a dryer and it comes out fletted.. Awful.. mess... very stretchy, flet like an afgan hound as soon as I combed it out, it was ratty again... was full body, bouncy and shinny ... waitted two days and still not happy how it felt.. still full body , bouncy and shinny but was a rat nest magnet

came back reading through this thread wondering if any the vinegar makes a difference.. Don't have any but I did have cosmetic grade Citric Acid powder I used for my creams.. made a weak mix and decided to try again with some of the suggestions of others..

used the sample Olive Bassu like the silky feel of it, easy lather with just a couple of passes over my hair. when I rinsed my hair was soft. repeated

    did the citric acid rinse

and I did condition useing sauve strawberry (just to be safe lol ) will say after the citric acid rinse my hair still felt soft before I added the conditioner.. Will just have to play with this combination in the future...

huge difference towel drying and putting it up damp with the snood ,, will see how it turns out after it dried... Very much liked the olive /babassu .. compared to the Carot milk honey..

will give an update...of the end results..

I'm curious and would like to try shampoo bars- but my spending money is precious and with results being so iffy I'm kinda timid about it.

I don't use CV bars, I use SCH ones. I don't use vinegar either, I use a lemon or lime rinse on occassion at about one ounce to eight ounces of water. I got that waxy build up feeling from a few bars that didn't work for my hair/scalp type. Switching bars for me worked to cure it mostly. Now I get it maybe once or twice a month, but I just clarify and it's gone. My water isn't hard or soft either.

I know SCH has regular sales so keep an eye on her site and when she's having one order a small amount of samples on one of them. The swap board is also a great way to find some samples to try and folks regularly post on there. You could start an ISO (in search of) thread too, I'm sure lots of people have some samples they'd like to sell/swap.

like the results , nice thickness bounce and soft and smooth feeling to it... Will stick with the olive/Babassu shampoo and play with using or not using the citric acid rince and conditioning.

washed on the 6th and still loving the results today. This may work this time trying shampoo bars again. If I can stay with the good results for 2 or 3 more days before I feel the need to wash again that would be great. Love the added bounce my straight hair still has..
