Zig-zag out. I honestly never thought of doing it the other way around! Hmm..

I'm a zig-zag out person too. For me they slide in easier that way.

Zig-zag out. I honestly never thought of doing it the other way around! Hmm..
I've alwyays used them zig zag out but have heard and read that zig zag in is the way they're supposed to go
Yep the zig zags against your scalp would be a no-go, for me at least! Besides the bobby pin has a foot that goes up, that surely doesn't go against the scalp, does it?
Whaaaaaaa?
The zig zags are supposed to go next to your head! Why else would decorative bobby pins have the decorative part on the straight side?
Hair is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.

I can't believe so many people use them zig zag out Like an alternative pin universe.
I usually use them zig zag in, cause someone told me they would slip less that way, but my decorative ones (which I almost never wear, as they are too heavy), I have to wear zig zag out due to the design, so the straight part is against my head. I'm not much bothered which way they go, I just wish they wouldn't disappear so easily!
Also, aren't the ones without the zig zags called wig pins, not bobby pins?
Wow! I've always done zig zag in as I felt it caught the hair much better. I'll have to try the other way and see if I notice a difference!
I always used them zig-zag out, but in all the hair tutorials I've seen they always say zig-zag in is the right way. It's supposed to hold better. I don't know.

Definitely zig-zag out : the "perfect bobby pins" are curved, not straight, and the flat side is meant to comfortably lay against the scalp, whereas the zig-zag side gives a nice wave to the hair. At least that's how it was worn in the 70ties (hair parted in the middle, with side hair held with one or more bobby pins, making little waves) ! Plus the "poking out shorter edge" is on the zig-zag top side because bobby pins are made to be used first by grasping the hair with that poking out edge, pushed forward, and then turned back flat against the scalp, on the curved side. That's how everybody in my family ever wore them. In the old time, we called them Sixtus !
