Wow! This is really cool! I didn't know there was a correlation!
I wonder if handedness matters with how you braid? I do "overs" (so if it was a French braid, the braid would be "in" not "on top."). I just learned to do the "on too" kind of "under" braiding this year. It's been a real struggle because my hand wants to do the old "over" kind of braid and my hands are really clumsy with the "under" kind...
I'm right-handed and I alternate.

I originally answered right shoulder (I'm right-handed) but now that I'm paying attention to it, I've noticed I alternate, as well.

Right hand, right shoulder too. Sometimes I try to it on the other shoulder to change but it is not no natural and logic for me to continue the braid more easily
One meter reached in June 2021. Cut it to waist and now I'm at 86cm at the beginning of the hip.
I think they mean over/under as in how you cross the strands. So over braiding is like a French braid and under braiding is like a Dutch braid (though I call them both English braids when started at the nape).
My answer hasn't changed: right handed and braid over my left shoulder, always. It's funny because even when I do twin braids, I have to finish both of them over the left. So I generally do the left one first, then flip it over my right shoulder so that it's out of the way when I do the right braid and flip that one onto the left![]()
