How often to Brush?

I have lurked the thread after posting the other day, and really taken what you guys have said into consideration. It makes sense! At least for my 2a hair. However: When I brush, I catch a LOT of dust/lint. Doesn't this accumulate in the hair if you don't brush?

Possibly. I don't see lint when I look over the length, but there could be bits here and there. It's rare that I find it as the cause of knots, so if I have a little, it doesn't cause me issues. I know it can become a real problem for others though. Personally, I did have a lot of lint at one point years ago and I think it's when I was regularly oiling my hair (probably way overdoing it, still figuring out what worked for me!). Now that I don't put anything on my hair, just a sulphate shampoo and cone-free conditioner when I wash the length, nothing seems to stick anymore. Might help that I have my hair up 99% of the time too.

At the very least, it's reminding me to wash daily so I don't need to end up in that situation of needing to brush it.

mochichichi I think you're onto something there.. I change my bedding weekly, but the wool blanket I wear in the couch sheds so much that I can see a little cloud of dust every time I move lol.. But it's so warm and cozy! What if I just wear a bonnet all the time?

lapis_lazuli Mmmmm.. Yes, I've read about this in another thread. They will have to pry leave-ins out of my dead, cold hands But maybe there's something in it. I've tried going cone free years ago, but it was not a good look on me. Maybe it's different now that I wear my hair up more!

Trying to learn to brush daily. There's no other way out for me, and when I brush daily I don't forget the working method.

Every morning with my BBB after taking out sleep braids and before re-braiding it for the day.
I always brush it very thoroughly before I'm about to wash it, then comb with a medium toothed plastic comb when it is still wet.
Reading through this thread I can see there is a huge range of ideas regarding brushing even among people with similar hair types.

I brush twice a day - morning and evening. Sometimes if I need to redo an updo I'll brush then also.

I voted never. I always us a wide tooth comb.

Never, the only regular detangling is with a wide tooth comb. If I am wearing my hair curly it’s only when I wash, but if my hair is combed out I will comb morning and often at night too depending on how I wear my near that day.
