I suspect the high number of people in this thread that went grey early is at least partly self selection? That is, people are more likely to post to the thread if they went grey earlier than average.
I've had a small silver streak since I was about 15. It's only been in the past couple years that I've really noticed any more finally starting to creep in. Which I find disappointing. While growing up I'd always hoped I'd take after my aunt. She started going gray super young and had the most gorgeous salt and pepper hair. I guess I will eventually get there too, I just had hoped for it a lot sooner.

Good point. It's not like a forum poll is really scientific anyway, partly because of self-selection and self-reporting.
But I also wonder again, how many of us who noticed gray hairs early in life have dark hair (and by "dark," I mean "medium brown/medium auburn and darker hair colors")?
My mother had a work colleague (they were about the same age, and in fact, Work Friend had a daughter about the same age as I) who didn't really notice she'd gone silver until she saw a photo of herself taken outdoors in full sun and realized her hair had a silver halo rather than the light-golden halo of her younger years; she was a very light blonde, so the silvers just sneaked in there!![]()
Not quite APL -> APL -> BSL -> Mid-Back with compact-cut layers and holding a while-> ???
I know I for one do have quite dark hair. As soon as any silvers show up they're very noticeable.
I'm thinking I won't notice my greys until I'm rather far along too. My Mum is really fair like me, and she's probably past 50% grey now if you look closely, but even to me it just looks like she went from golden to ashy blonde. I'm nearing 27 and I haven't seen any greys yet, my Mum is 65, and my Dad went grey in his teens. He's almost completely white now!
ETA: I didn't vote, but I subscribed so that I can when I do find my first grey![]()
I'm 25 and I've always had few silver strands but recently I am founding way more of them. Now it's difficult for me to do the parting and not see for at least one.
Yet I hope I took after my mom. She is in her sixties and have mainly normal hair color with only little of silver hair mixed in.
I was 25 when I found my first sparklies. 5 years later they havent really multiplied that much and they blend in well with my othervise brown hair. I dont mind the silver though, I think theyre rather beautiful.
I'm 45, and I've only really noticed the silvers appearing in the last year or so. I just think 'yay, natural highlights'.![]()
I started seeing them two years ago when I was 26 and stopped dyeing my hair. So maybe I had them before that. There's just a few, but it is kind of noticeable in the front. It seems like my mom has just gotten some the last few years as well. She is 53 and has light brown hair. Mine is medium brown. My dad has very dark brown hair and I think he started getting gray hairs on his 30s.
* SL * APL * BSL * * WL * HL * BCL* TBL * Classic ?
About 35 for the first ones, and then they started coming properly around 37-38. I think myself lucky because my mum was getting greys before she was 20.
