ok I will complain about my awful layers here LOL I accidentally posted in the buzz to chin cause I didn't see this one here. my bangs and shortest layer on the sides of my head are really annoying. they don't stay in a ponytail so I have to clip everything up out of my face and I get these weird ends that curl up out of the clips. I stopped using bobby pins because I noticed they would tug and rip at my hair when I put them in and took them out so claw clips have been my go-to. Headbands aren't as bad now but I still get weird flippy bits around my face that makes me look like a lion. having a mullet is hard.. the parts near my neck are so long and look so cute but the rest of my hair doesn't look so good unless freshly washed.

I'm hoping the layers grow out by summertime!

Short stages are the worst, but you get through them so fast... if you leave it alone. Just let it grow. Wash it if you must, pumpkinsage, there's nothing wrong with washing more!
WCC method (washing) --- Rinse-out oil (MO) --- LOC/LCO method (styling)

I'm sure you're right, lapushka! It'd be nice to put everything up into one hairband one day. I've put my hair scissors away so that I'm not tempted haha. I'll give washing and styling more a go!

You can tie up what's long enough and use a thicker headband with a cute print to keep the annoying bits out of the way until they're long enough! I've been eyeing some from AltnessHandmade on Etsy myself. When I was growing out my bangs I also found that a little aloe vera gel would provide a tiny bit of hold and could help keep the bits from flipping back over the headband... but my hair is really straight.

I have to say that the day I chopped my hair all the way up to the length of what my bangs used to be was one of the most satisfying of my hair journey.

Ooh!! Good idea mochichichi! Those headbands from AltnessHandmade look so comfy. I'll have to give that ago.

I am sure I'll be growing out *some* of the layers. I'm not sure, though, if I'll ever have just a blunt cut, because my hair lays too flat when it gets longer than BSL, so some shorter pieces are required if I want it to look good when down. But I know for sure I'm never letting thinning scissors again near my head. Since my last cut in November, when thinning scissors were used, my hair looks and feels so much thinner (and I didn't have thick hair anyways). It feels discouraging .

Hi! I am growing out a curly shag haircut and it has been taking a long time! The last time it was cut in this style was in fall of 2021, but I had been trimming my bangs and some wisps around my face. All of that ended in fall of 2022.

The longest of my hair is about BSL and the shortest of my bangs are down to my lips if I pull them down my face. The mid lengths are mostly shoulder length-ish at this point. I am just planning to let it all grow and do DIY tiny trims every 1/4 year or so. I feel like my hair is so weird and thin at this point and a lot of that is due to the different layers. I see lots of buns and braids in my future to conceal the wonkiness

My plan for growing out my layers this year is to maintain a deep ‘U’ shape. There is no way a blunt hemline is going to work for me, my hair just kinda naturally breaks off in a U so I’d rather control it than let it break! But I plan to grow out the rest of the shorter layers, I don’t count the hemline shape as ‘layers’ even though they probably will stick out of my braids etc.

I also FEEL YOU with the thinning shears… I understand the idea, but those parts of my hair just look kinda… fried somehow? And I went to a very nice salon so I trust their technique and supplies, Maybe it doesn’t work that great for very fine hair? Or maybe I am just over the ‘look’ for now.

growing out a shag as well, from Aug 2021. I have been trimming the ends and maintaining the face framing and bangs since as well. My hair does not have as much texture as you, and my stylist did a great job of making my hem still full somehow and she cut the hem to APL so it’s been easy enough to grow out since it wasn’t the shortest shag. Now… I have short layers around my face, but the back layers have grown out to APL and my longest are WL. I have already been maintaining the hemline for the last 6 months and plan to continue with seasonal trims to continue to even out the layers for this year. I do love a shag, I just want cleaner braids and crisper ends instead at this point

    good luck!

I dislike my layers. I understand that they have been on trend for a while and all that but my last hairdresser was a little too scissor happy about it and while my ponytail at the base measures a tightly pulled 3.35" (average thickness), the bottom literally looks like Gollum hair, especially in the front. It's weird and just not a good look.

    So I'm growing them out.
