Hopefully this is the beginning of a much longer braid! Thanks to everyone who regularly posts here for the inspiration - having a nice long braid is one of the main reasons I'm growing!
Pretty, stardust lady! And such a nice thick tassel

After a while you learn to hold the braid where you want it to go and bring the hair to the braid rather than letting the hair pull the braid willy-nilly. When you want to change direction just turn the braid push it in hold it and bring the hair to the new direction.
This is great advice. I've also read something about the tension at the thumb being very important, though I can't say I've mastered either technique yet!

Came back to these very cute photos while browsing this thread! So lovely.

I attempt a high ponytail braid now and then for running, but I find it difficult to get the tension at the top right. tuanyiji, do you have any advice for stopping this fraying near the hairband when wearing for longer periods?Your hair looks nicely oiled here, which I imagine helps a lot.

Does anyone else have an affinity for (or difficult relationship with!) high ponytail braids?

Thank you, but I’m afraid I can’t give any more useful tips on high ponytail as I stopped wearing it after I began growing my hair seriously, and I transitioned from high pony to low pony, then braids, and then buns, now I almost never use elastic ties and combs/brushes anymore to reduce any mechanical damage.
In the picture, I was taking care of my dad in the hospital and that meant I hadn’t washed my hair for over a week, so that was actually very greasy with sebum lol.
