Oh no, nothing like that . I was perceptive of the smell... i'm sure i was not wafting of onions . Someone else could only notice if they put their nose in my hair...so no social issues.

That's good. But I do want to admit to putting some smelly things in my hair. Peppermint EO for one. (I was surprised to learn that some people can't stand the smell, although I adore it!) Other odiferous critters that have been on my head: neem oil, raw eggs ... And I continue to use them, because for me, they do work! https://forums.longhaircommunity.com...=150332&page=4 ... And I really didn't mind combing the little green flakes out after washing my hair with cilantro. I thought it was kind of fun, actually.

But if it doesn't work for you personally, well there are lots of other hair growth methods out there, and I'm the eternal optimist. If one thing doesn't work, something else surely will. That's just my opinion.

So, I don't think anybody here's going to try to make you feel weird for experimenting. You're in good company! :

I used some home remedy for hair fall I've been experiencing and I have to tell you,it's not onion it's garlic. I used it everyday for a month. The results were lacking I don't know why but the smell of garlic stayed in my hair for 2 years. Whenever my hair was wet it smelled of garlic. I didn't try it ever again, but I think onion smells way less than garlic.

I have and it works. It's a well known remedy in the Indus community. It dramatically cuts down on shedding. I always mixed mine with ginger. Two reasons:

    1. Ginger also helps with scalp stiumlation and hair fall (wouldn't recommend if you are sensitive it does have a warming effect which may irritate some)

    2. Cuts the onion scent down dramatically. It does still smell onion-y but not nearly as much.

Does it linger? It can, especially if you don't shampoo cleanse. But if you are going through a serious hair loss, this is a serious help.

I cant remember if I replied to this thread before, but if I did, it was a while ago

I have used onion juice in and off the past 2 years (depending on whether i was in a green or red light stage with my ex haha..aaaand the red light stages obviously being the ones where I felt comfortable enough to smell potentially slightly onioney)

Firstly, there might be a slight onion smell the first few days ONLY if my hair gets damp. After, no smell. What really helps is that after my onion juice mask and then wash, i douse my hair with ACV-water mix and leave this in for about 1.5 minutes. It seems to really get rid of the onion smell.

Secondly, ever since using it I have minimal hair fall. In the months that I actively use it, hair fall pretty much stops altogether and i measure growth spurts. I use onion juice (in the stages i use it) once a month and leave it on for about an hour.

I prepare it by just grating or blending a whole onion and then strain the juice with a piece of cotton cloth which i rinse afterward and then wash. Then i use one if those simple little syringes and apply it across my scalp in no time (ive found that those syringes work best in terms of precision with regards to targeting scalp instead of hair, thus also smell, and in terms of saving time). Sometimes i add a few drops of lavender. I give my scalp a gentle massage and then just put it up for a little bit, then thoroughly wash everything with a clarifying shampoo and mostly i follow this up with SMT and then ACV rinse. I did this yesterday again and honestly - no smell.

i'm looking to add onion juice as a rinse or as an additive in conditioner (i've seen some on etsy for example). i've heard really positive things about the growth it can provide.

I used onion juice for about a month and a half, weekly or twice a week when I had time. I did notice it greatly increased and strengthened the baby hairs around my hairline, to the point where my hair looks thicker. The smell lingers for a few days for me though it's only noticeable when your nose is in my hair sniffing. It diminishes rapidly each day until it isn't noticeable.

Still, I got worried about how my clients would perceive it at my hair removal job since I have to lean over their faces a lot, so I switched to onion oil. I'm going to see if my growthrate changes at all over the same period of time that I used the juice and report back. The onion oil is also less prep so it just works better for me for now.

I do recommend onion juice just for the baby hairs! I'm not sure if it increased my growth or density otherwise, though.
