Onion skins are used in Serbia to color easter eggs. They give a brown tint.
However, this is the skins from brown onions, like these
I have not heard of anyone trying the purple onions, they have been on the market here only since recently. I was curious about this myself, but I think I would not stand the smell.
Will follow this thread with interest, though!
In many countries probably, it is a well-known and widely available natural color...
Onion skins were tried in this thread for hair colour with mixed results. They dye wool well, lol. Anything recommended in the thread was checked out for safety.

In Estonia it's a very well known home remedy to fight hair loss. One would mash up a raw onion and smear it on the scalp, pretty much. It is said to work wonders, however, the smell will linger for a long, long time. Weeks, actually. This is why I will never try this on myself, as I have no desire to smell like raw onions for weeks.

Just for those who might be interested but missed out my post, it was definitely not stinky when I used it the way I way told to.
Soft hair that is nice to sit on - now I'm bragging!
I'd have to find an alternative to onion juice as I find the smell most unpleasant.
I'm glad it worked for you, too, but I have to agree that after looking at the mixed results of others that I would definitely try something else. I just can't imagine living with the possibility of having the smell lingering at all, much less for 11 months
Glad it worked out, though.
