Hi everyone! This thread is just moving along.

I got really excited, my hair is finally long enough that my french braid doesn't have to end at the nape of my head

Maddy-your hair looks so beautiful and healthy!

How did you end up at the length that you are right now?

I chopped off my APL/BSL length hair into a very short (chin) length cut with a lot of layers in the back. About 3 months later, I'm at shoulder length or past collar bone stretched.

I was shoulder length for a long time but got bored with that length and got a chin-length cut and then a pixie. Here I am at shoulder again! I don't like shoulder length much...I think my hair looks better either very short or long.

Your hair looks very shiny in your avatar!

Shoulder length is tricky to me. I guess my haircut is more to blame, honestly. Soooo uneven... It makes styling difficult.

Is this just the most "lost hairstyle with no style can't figure out what to with it?" stage. It has been awful considering I had a heavy shedding period and had to cut my damaged almost BSL to shoulder and I hate it, I was wondering if anyone feels the annoyance of this stage, I just want to wear it up all the time, The length does not look good on me, even when I try cute things for my hair. well I guess I just have to believe in growth spurts. I heard it said that our hair gets really gnarley before a growth spurt. Oh joy, something else to look forward too. No, really it's going to grow. I am so happy I found this thread, how many of you are actually putting your hair up during this stage? thanks for letting me rant...

Hi Brenda! Mine's still juuusst a little too short to put up without a bunch of clips, the chin length sides fall out. Some days, I do it anyway, though! I have a scrunchie made of artificial hair that's quite close to my hair color; I pull everything into a mid height pony, and make a hair loop when pulling the elastic around the last time; then I put the hair scrunchie around it. I put clips in the sides so they don't fall out, then put a bunch of hair spray all around. The hair in the scrunchie is curled, so it looks like a salon 'do with about 30 seconds effort - but I have to pull it so tight to get it to stay that I end up with a headache by the end of the day, so I only do it maybe once a week. I will be SO much more content with my hair when I can do a French twist, stick a fork in it and forget it! I estimate that by summer I'll be able to do that, so at least I'll be able to get it off me during the heat

In general shoulder requires a lot of styling effort from me - 4 hours of drying time for 2 days of nice-looking hair? ugh - so I'll be glad when I'm past it. It makes me miss pixie length when I had a 1/2 hour of drying time and could easily get 4 days of nice-looking hair out of it.

You should definitely be able to wear it up if you want to at shoulder length; you might need some side clips but I don't see any harm in that. I wore mine up from August to December last year as I was approaching shoulder length but not quite there yet. Now I'm kind of tired of wearing it up and only do that if it's already starting to look wonky and I know it'll have to be washed soon. Updos make my hair very asymmetrical and I'll go crazy wanting to cut it if I see it down in that state.

Hey Brenda! Good to have you here Just shoulder has been a very annoying length for me too. When I got there two months ago (or something like that) I was really planning on having it cut as I had been doing in the last four years cause everything about the length feels wrong: too long to do an ordinary ponytail without the hair in your neck, too short to make a decent braid... but then I decided that this time I would let it grow. I did put up my hair a lot in this stage too. You can do a peacock twist or you can use an African Butterfly. They're very easy to use and work perfect even for holding up shoulder length hair.
    shoulder - APL - BSL - waist (28.74 in) -hip (35 in) - TBL (38.2 in)
Current goal: waist by Christmas 2013!

I'm at shoulder because I went from just past Shoulder to a Pob which I kept for around 6months then started growing again bevause I realised it looked awful and I couldn't be bothered to style it properly.

I wear my hair up 100% of the time, just to leave it alone and let it grow as quickly as possible. When I had it cut to shoulder last time from BSL was because of damage, and I remember shoulder being a lot more enjoyable because I wore it down most the time. So it just annoys me this time round cause I can't wear it down without it looking silly.

It's times like these where I kick myself for ever cutting my hair. I have kind of flippy shoulder length hair with short layers, (but only in the back). I had a spiked in the back, long in the front hair cut and am trying to figure out what to do about the uneven layers. It'd probably look best to cut short layers in the front so it looks like the same head of hair, but I want all of my hair the same length!

I promised myself no haircuts until December, so the layers will be longer and I won't look at my hair with an urge to cut it all off.

I've been surviving by wearing it up with clips every day. GROW!
