I've been known to use crochet hooks as quick-a-minute hairsticks, but that's about it. Gonna have to get creative.
I think it was Koala Kim and her niece (not sure if I'm right) that had plastic forks in their hair. I should look a little closer at the odds and ends around the house to see what fun 'hairtoys' they can make!

I've used: crochet hooks, knitting needles (single short ones or DPN's,or the ends of my denise set), chopsticks, pencils, pens, a broach, a cloakpin as slide.. scarves and ribbons and yarns in all kinds of forms... OH I had a funky plastic yarn needle in a mini bun once... never tried the tape measure one, I like that.. pencils and pens... and in one case a dowel.. oh.. in desperation one night after my bun was pulled out 3 times by Ryoga I took one of the short "ropes" from the playroom and used it to tie my hair up- it's a 1" wide strip of fleece crocheted into a chain... they each start about 60" long and end up about 18" long but stretch to about 30/35"
