I used to do that as a teenager (go to sleep with damp hair) and my curls always turned the best way possible! I just stopped doing it because I don't really like the physical sensation of sleeping with wet hair. I think it works similar to how curling products work, it keeps your hair moisturised for longer, but probably the lack of gravity also helps the waves to curl easier

If I want them to really pop, gotta sleep with it wet, otherwise I look like a frizzy mess till day 3 hair lol

When I put my hair up after washing, it ruins the texture and I get so many flyaways. I personally have to leave it loose to air dry.

Oh, that's an interesting thought about it keeping hair moisturised for longer. I often sleep on damp hair because I workout then shower in the evening, and parts are still damp in the morning, and I definitely get the best waves when I do that rather than washing in the morning. My hair is also really heavy when it's wet, so I suspect that drying with it loose and down pulls the waves out more than sleeping with it thrown over the top of my pillow.

For the first time maybe ever, didn't brush or use product, just let it air dry a bit and slept on it. https://imgur.com/a/rAwIKsz Good thing it's long enough to throw into a clip today, because it's kind of a disaster lol. Maybe this sleeping-on-it technique is only good for long hair...
