Certain Oils Don't Penetrate???

Hi in this thread again. I just started one about fractionated coconut oil and protein loss

But I did not get any longer than wonder if lauric acid was the one acid protecting form hair loss (the "affinity for protein" thing...).

Has anybody who reads this thread found out if caprylic (and the other one with similar name) will protect from hair loss?

Hi everyone,

I have done a bit of searching on the forum but can't find the answer yet - can flaxseed oil be used topically on the hair at all?

I know it's consumed as a food supplement.

(reason I'm asking - I have an unused bottle and am wondering what to do with it!!)

The site I look for info at (a big Swedish data site) says that flaxseed oil is the only oil that can be used in big amounts as hair oil, without making the hair "not shiny" (is "dull" the correct word?).

So it seams it can be used. I wouldn't thoug, since it's oil that doesn't dry, but oxidize, and therefore can be used as oil in paint or on it's own to make a protecting oxidized finish surface. I am afraid that it would start oxidize in my hair, but have not tested, so that is just what I think.

Others here maybe have used it and had great results.

It contains rather high of linoleic acid, the one that oxidize.

EDIT: It takes several days for it to oxidize, so it should be ok to use if not leaving it for one week.

Hi again.
I haven't tried it, but I use such oil for painting wooden stuff in my home.

It gets sticky and dries just like ordinary paint, but more slowly. Sometimes I use plain flaxseedoil without any pigments, and it behaves like slow drying and soft varnish.

I can't tell for sure it would do that on hair if you use a bit and wash two days later for example, but I don't dare to find out how it really is.

Hope someone knows more about it here.

It said though, in my resource, that it is used as hair oil. The same page mentioned the oxidizing issue, but stated (just for skin X(), that it is absorbed before it can oxidize.

But on hair we can go with it for several days, at least I have oils on so long before wash.
