It always confused me when they say cool people like silver and warmer like gold but isn't that a personal taste more than a skin thing

I wear both. Sometimes at the same time Yes, I agree. I don't subscribe to that theory 100%..

I mean, that's more a general quick guide to figure out whether you're warm or cool, and while some people are none the wiser by it (myself included), for others just looking at their skintone next to gold vs. silver can really show a difference. I think if you're very cool toned, or very warm toned, looking at your skin next to silver and gold can be a great starting point, whereas those of us who are more in the middle tend to struggle a bit more with that specific test.

Although yes, some people just prefer one or the other, regardless of what technically fits best - as they should, IMO. Sure, certain colors might technically work better with our undertones, but at the end of the day, all that matters is that the person wearing them feels good about it. If wearing bright neon colors makes you happy, who cares if your coloring is more autumn-leaning.

Ack well here I am back here again. I grew out my bleach - took 3.5 years. I had boob length beautiful natural hair. See a picture of my greys and then go dye it blonde again. Even worse, hairdresser thins out the front. Anyhoo, got a shoulder length chop at the weekend and how I have 6inches of regrowth and 6inches of damaged, thinned out bleach ends. Not a great look but can’t believe I’m back here again after lasting four years no bleached and growth. Anyone else here had a bleach relapse and how did you get over it?

I had an extremely extended dye/bleach relapse in 2011 or 2012 that lasted until the end of 2022, lol. I had gone a little over a year without touching my hair with bleach or dye (had dyed brown over my bleach blonde to ease the growout), and then I impulsively dyed my hair black. I remember I left a party to pick up some box dye at like 1 AM, the second I decided to do it. It was like a craving. I had black hair for about four years, bleach blonde for seven, and then the damage caught up with me all at once. Right now I have about 3 inches of natural root, and the rest is bleached hair down to my bra band.

I'm trying to get over it by getting really involved in the online haircare communities, obviously here at LHC but also on instagram and tiktok. I have a pinterest board of pretty brown hair, all different shades of brown, and I'm trying to romanticize my natural color instead of telling myself negative (and false!) things like my natural hair is boring. I follow a lot of brunettes on IG and tiktok who all have natural hair and are at or longer than my goal length. I really want to see my natural color, texture, and shine come through. Since I'm starting at a length I find tolerable (BSL) instead of shoulder length like I did when I first tried to grow out natural, I think I'll be more successful. The longer my hair is the less likely I am to try and mess with it. What I will never understand is why I decided to cut my tailbone length black hair to waist, then bleach it.

Welcome back! It seems you have a great starting point now, though! Six inches of regrowth is a lot already, and you don't have that much damage left. Are you planning on maintaining your current length, or will you grow with the bleached hair?

I did grow out for about a year and then dye it again, a couple of years ago. I've been slipping up here and there since joining LHC, and it's so annoying to look back and realize that I could have had long, fully virgin hair at this point if only I had stuck to it! But we live and we learn. Growing out hair is truly an exercise in patience. Progress takes several years, but it only takes a few minutes and a strong enough impulse to destroy it all.

Girl, are you me? I could have written all of this myself. Those impulses... It feels so silly to have those emotions about hair dye of all things, but it truly can act like an addiction! I think actively trying to romanticize your natural color is a great idea though. I know I spent a lot of time trying to talk myself into liking my color, and now I genuinely do.

I'm back and attempting to grow natural for a while. We will see for how long😁
I actually have a perfect excuse for my boyfriend now why am I growing my greys the fact is, I have so bad economy right now that I can't afford to buy any dye. Honestly I'm glad that I am still able to pay my rent, electricity and buy some food. Everything else has to wait
