I always applied to dry hair, I did make my mud a bit thinner than most people do
the problem could also be that I did not use heat anywhere in this treatment. Somehow I thought that if you let the henna soak long enough, no heat is needed at any point. I still don't know what is right and what is wrong, but I don't keep my henna all time only in room temperature anymore (but I don't boil it either).

    Can't stand the dripping.
No dripping is a big thing! I just tried this last evening and was amazed how I was free from this pain! Even though my henna mix was REALLY runny! But my dry hair soaked that all (I was prepared to wet my lengths if it feels impossible to spread henna there when they are dry but then i remembered that i actually need no henna in my lengths now when I have there my desired color with aker fassi, and I need no red deepening at the moment, that colour stays good especially in my ends.)

Someone even said that the result is better with dry hair, I'm yet to see about that (now letting conditioner sit).

Adding my experience to the thread: I've done henna, cassia, and sedr all on both wet and dry hair, and honestly I have never noticed a difference in conditioning or color uptake on wet versus dry. I find it more convenient to apply on dry hair because it's easier for me to section it off and detangle it.

I'm so happy my grey roots henna coverage on dry hair succeeded this well Should have taken the before picture too, but there was one month growth that makes a good 2cm wide grey stripe around my parting. Kept it overnight and didn't rush rinsing next morning..

I've been feeling that henna on damp hair gives me maybe a little stronger (and so better) result, but this no-dripping is too good to give away. Especially because I usually keep henna overnight.

    Oooh, lovely colour Priska!!

After the first time, I also apply to dry (heavily coconut-oiled) hair.

The mix I use to touch up roots around twice a week is very runny, and because I do it so often, I'm not worried about missing a section; it will get covered next time, a few days later (my strategy is 'little and often').

Every few months I make a new batch, which I divide into ice cubes. A runnier mixture is much easier to blend into my gloss!

After 7,5 years of silvering dreadlocks, back to loose, fine, straightish hair.
Fresh Hennahead and loving the red!

Thank you so much Hedera! :
I've also used henna-coconut oil - mixture to my lengths, but I'm afraid my gray (or almost white) roots need strong henna for the coverage...

Don't know whether it absorb better or not, really, but I find it easier to use on my hair if it's dry during application.
Of course, I have the paste a bit looser (not drip-runny, but somewhat runny) than people usually have, I think, and I add some of Nightblooming's Selkie detangling spray in the batter/mix.
That's how I like it best.
