I'd also like to know how exactly the kelp is involved.
I'm imagining wrapping your head in it... which is probably totally off.

What type of kelp did you take? In what form? How much? And why?

    Hi jojo,

I have been taking kelp too in pill form. My each tablet contains 100mg of kelp which has 150ug of iodine. I have been taking only one but recently i read that only if taken in a little high dosage does results show. Hence i have started taking 2 now. I don't want to overdose myself too.Kelp helps the body to increase metabolism especially for 0 blood group type's according to jadamo. These people are usually low in iodine levels. Kelp can also be taken in natural form like a vegetable but i haven't found it here so far. I have heard iodine by itself helps increase hair growth. That is why people living in coastal areas eating fish high in iodine have long healthy hair. Also other sources of iodine are iodised salt(don't take too much if BP), brinjals, plums or other varieties of plums, kale etc...

i take 500mg of kelp in tablet form. i started taking it to help my thyroid out, as it contains iodine which aids the thyroid, but i had read that models take it to promote growth so i thought id give it a go, i have more energy too with it.
Heres a few links which may help.

My mother always swore by kelp for overall general health. I'm taking spirulina and notice the same benefits. The green stuff's great!

You won't believe this, but I've always wanted to try Kelp since I was at school - and haven't got round to it yet.

The problem (if there really is one!) is that I've been on thyroid supplements for several years now, due to hypothyroidism.

Every time I've asked specialist/family doctor about taking Kelp and thereby possibly reducing the thyroxine - I just get told 'no, don't do it' and don't get any clear explanation or reason given.

This is frustrating as, instinctively, I've felt for years that I could generally benefit from Kelp. I've a good mind to just go ahead and try it, starting with a low dose. I'm not daft (and have nursing background anyway) and would know to keep an eye out for bulging eyes, overheating, jumpiness and excessive weightloss!!!

Thanks for the info on this. I'm tempted to try it myself. I had a look at this site:
    http://www.vegansociety.com/html/foo...ion/iodine.php
which said vegans (which I am) tend have less iodine and we don't have iodised salt over here like in the US (when I was in the US I remember being confused as to what it meant).
    Can't do any harm right?

And congratulations on the 7lbs! That's amazing in 4 weeks.
