I'm considering getting a few of these soon but I don't know what size would be the best. My pony circ is between 4.5/4.75" and it's currently 30" with blunt ends. I intend to wear it for pinning up braids and nautilus kind of buns and I might wear two. I'm leaning toward the large for one bun and medium for two, is this wrong?
In case you haven't bought one yet, it's more about the size of your bun/updo. Do the style you intend to do with a Flexi with a stick first and find out how much hair is overtop the stick (and how long of a stick you need). You'll need increasing amounts of hair to keep the figure 8 closed. For pinning up braids that you can't do with just a stick, I'd probably go by the measurements of the Flexis and guess the smallest one you could fit the braids into.
These are the numbers I went by. The figure 8 lengths are rough estimates based on my own research, not official measurements, and vary between designs:
XXS
Pin: 2"
Figure 8: 1.75"
XS
Pin: 2.75"
Figure 8: 2.125"
S
Pin: 3.25"
Figure 8: 2.625"
M
Pin: 3.75"
Figure 8: 3.25"
L
Pin: 4.25"
Figure 8: 3.625"
XL
Pin: 5.25"
Figure 8: 4.625"
XXL
Pin: 6.25"
Figure 8: 6"
Unfortunately, it's kind of trial and error.

I got a few new Flexis, but I've decided these will be my last for a while. I still find these toys really finicky and get inconsistent results with themMaybe I just don't know what I'm doing, but I continue to wish there was a size in between XL and Mega.
The XL I can squish onto certain centre-held buns, but for the most part, it's too small. It probably needs half the amount of hair the Mega requires. And therein lies my problem: most of the buns I like to do spread the hair out into a more vertical shape, and therefore there is sometimes insufficient hair between the stick and the figure 8 for the Mega Flexi to close (or it only closes on the first notch, which bothers me). It's hit-and-miss. And then, even when I do find a bun that the Mega fits, I wonder if it even looks good on me proportions-wise. It's SO big. Well, I already have Mega Flexis, so I'm going to wear them regardless, but I second-guess myself.
Anyway, it's probably for the best to go on a time-out. Since I started collecting hairtoys in January, I've bought maybe a few years worth of them to make up for lost time, and my wallet is hurting.
