I'm a big fan of your spiraly ends btw, is it just the perfect layers or do you style them?
It could be depending on what you use , I mean proteins or humectants for exemple

I use styling products, my waves practically doesn't exist without. Gel or mousse. I don't do plopping, my hair hates it I comb wet hair, apply my styling products, twist all and scrunch in some more water until I see spirals. Then I just leave it to dry.
I have some layers but just a bit on the ends

I have to admit, I don't fully understand the proteins yet, so that's a good point
Plopping is definitely hit or miss, today it happened to work out lol. Maybe I should try to twist before I scrunch next time, I feel like spirals would feel much more natural to my hair. 3-5 days after I wash it, it's all straight on the top with the waves "squeezed" down to the ends, forming one thick spiral on each side

Proteins are repairing damage and strengthening the hair and they are wavy girls best chum since they give volume and enhance texture .
In our Polish " hair maniacs " communities we talk about PEH ( protein-emollient-humectant) balance and how it affects our hair. Proteins are hydrolyzed keratin, silk, wheat, soy, rice, and amino acids. Emollients- olis, butters, silicones, paraffin and such. Humectants- aloe vera, glycerin, propylene glycol, honey, sorbitol, algae extracts.
Its best to have products with those ingredients and observe hair so we notice what it needs, and balance the haircare. So learning how to read the ingredient list is important

Ohh thank you for the detailed explanation, very informative! I checked the ingredients of the two conditioners I’ve been using lately, one is mostly proteins, the other - emollients. To be honest, I don’t feel a difference, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a visual one

I come with a little update. I lost around an inch when I trimmed my hair in the beginning of the year, but I definitely don't regret it, the layers came out just perfect I'm still a few centimetres away from BSL ( on dry waves, while wet and stretched they are already at BSL) and I count on getting there in April/May depending on the growth.
I tucked my shirt under bra strap so it can be seen. Its always roughly at the line of the white frame of the mirror.
Oooo! Look at those cuuuurls! I encourage mine all the time now that I found them, though wow, on me they eat up a lot of length. That's okay. quilt as well as quantity! Your hair is so pretty.

hey everyone! I haven't been here for a while, but after cutting my bleach out last summer I'm ready to get my growth back on. I'm currently around APL just hoping for some new length. (Also growing out these dastardly layers I got cut in.)

I've seen a lot of abbreviations on this site, like "APL" and "MBL". I am new here. Could someone please explain them to me? Are there threads that define all that?
