    Default Removing dye and henna-indigo

Hello! I am currently growing out my natural salt and pepper hair color. My original color was dark brown that turned auburn in the sun. I started going gray in my 20s and probably am about 30% now.

Over the years, I have used both henna/indigo and chemical dyes. I grew it out for over a year in 2018-19, but then I caved and started again with box dye. In March 2024, I switched back to henna/indigo and stopped altogether in August or September 2024. I have about 2 inches of virgin hair.

I know henna is notoriously difficult to remove. Based on internet searches, I did a couple hot oil treatments, followed by clarifying shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo/condition is "Go Gray" brand and has activated charcoal. I liked the results so I was tempted to us their color remover product, which I believe is similar to "Color Oops." It says it won't work on Henna, which is okay with me, but some of the reviews mention that it turned their hair orange. That is most definitely NOT okay with me.

Anyhoo, my question is, have any of you tried color remover on henna-indigo and/or box dyed dark brown, either Color Oops, or Go Gray or any other brand? If so, how did it go (good, bad, ugly?)

I know I should just be patient, but I look at all the beautiful #silversisters on Instagram and I want it nooooooow.

Indigo and henna are difficult to remove
I never tried colour remover but I know that people had some success with ascorbic acid ( vitamin C) mixed with shampoo . Still there's risk of green hair if you have many layers of indigo.
I had most success with Coca-Cola and coconut oil treatments but this method takes a lot of time

Anyway, good luck. I plugged my ears to the siren song of silver haired community because , sadly, it only gives me urges to cut my hair short

Thanks! I don't have to worry about cutting my hair short because if I did, my partner would leave me. (Kidding...I think...)

I wouldn't risk pulling it out honestly it just goes green, even if you don't see it in certain lights if will show up, I'd just recommend growing it out

Also if he left you cause you cut your hair off then you'd better off without them. Zzz

You can pull most the indigo using Vitamin C (just google how to remove manic panic with Vitamin C, same process), for the henna, though, you're kinda boned. You can try Color Oops or ColorB4, but your best bet is going to be getting to 'good enough' and then trying to dye or tone it to match your natural color. And then grow it out.

He wouldn't actually leave me. He's demonstrated his commitment time and again. Still, he prefers long hair. He even said he didn't find Charlize Theron attractive with a pixie cut, and I'm no Charlize!

Re: Green. Thanks for the tip. The green tinge is why I quit the hennindigo in the first place. Recently, my grays would look green for a couple of days until they oxidized. I was using a one step henna/indigo. I think the 2 step would have been better, but I decided I didn't want to spend that much time when when my natural color could be just as pretty eventually.

    good I'm glad!

you'd have to be careful with 2 step so it doesn't go jet black, but you could try Nightshades idea! they are LHC's Henna/indigo expert!
