Handmade Hair Accessories

Does anyone make their own? I made these barrettes with some Koa wood I picked up in Hawaii when my wife and I got married on Kauai in 2000. Of course, it doesn't hurt to have a willing model at home! I may have to make a few more for myself, and try my hand at hair sticks too. Such beautiful wood.

Sorry I don't know how to bury the link in the words. I don't know that it's very active anymore but there's lots of great information in there and lots of pictures of other people's work.

I’ve tried making my own hair sticks before. I think I wasn’t using the right type of wood (or the right tools >.<). I didn’t get the finish smooth enough and the sticks would snag in my hair. An epic fail, but maybe something to keep in mind when you try your hand at it! Though it by the looks of these it would seem you do have the needed tools and knowledge to get them finished enough for that not to be a problem! Great work, look forward to seeing more!
