I officially hit WL and I am super grateful. But it sure does not feel like I have waist length hair 😂 In my opinion my hair is still short and feels a bit longer than BSL.

Maybe this is why so many of us are afflicted with LHCitis

Oh, yay! Can't believe I missed your comment. Maybe I'll put my signature back up, then. I just took it off recently because I was worried it was too many words unrelated to hair, and I'm far less sarcastic typing than in person, because it's too easy to get misinterpreted. But I do love the quote!

Continuing on persephone_sun and foreveryours, maybe most people would rather be happy surprised than disappointed, so maybe there's also a tendency (at least I see it in myself) to think of it more conservatively so we get happy surprised when we see how long it really has grown.
Anyways, there's a lot of factors, that have mostly been brought up already, but I think that is a contributing one for me. Mostly unconscious, but also purposeful

I braid a lot, and my thickness makes them look a lot shorter than they really are. I keep thinking I'm stuck at APL when I'm past BSL and just a couple inches from waist. Sometimes when I let it loose I get comments from friends/family about how long it has gotten but my brain hasn't caught up to it yet! Interesting to see this is actually a pretty common misperception here.

Somewhere in between MBL and WL, since I won't consider it WL until it hits the waistband of my pants, not before. A chiropractor would probably call that lower back. I go by what I consider a specific length (like BSL/MBL, which I consider the same length, with the latter being the unisex term, since men don't wear bras), whether it's the correct term or not. Also, I have natural curl, so it might look shorter when it's clean (stretching out to the actual length when greasy). I'm also quite tall (about 5'7, so my natural waist might be further down than on a shorter person). My biological father was as tall as Jeff Goldblum (about 6'2), so I'm a bit taller than my Mom (who's probably around 5'5 or 5'6, similar to my grandmother when she was still alive).

Its actual length right now is 33 1/2 inches, which is a bit past my waist, and not exceptional in the LHC at all. But I am cosseting and treasuring it due to the large amount I have lost to hormonal shedding which has given it a large taper from about BSL to waist.
A mean person might say to chop it all at BSL to 'neaten it up', but I am not mean and I am leaving it in all its Fairytale glory, and I think of the length as 'long', because it certainly isn't 'short'!!

When my hair is up in a clip I think of it as waist length still, and then I take it down and then realise I cut it back to CBL… it’s getting quite close to APL now though, and that can sometimes surprise me too haha.

I used to think of my hair as Classic, but that was a few years ago. After some illnesses and related shedding I now know that I am more like Waist length and it's not likely to be Classic ever again as my growth seems to be shorter and shorter as I age.
