Being old (69), I'm off most people's radar. The only time I've gotten compliments on my hair in recent years is when I had fresh color (semi-permanent, fantasy shades) on it. People often like the color.

It's hip length. I don't wear it down very often.

As far as ‘attention from men’ I don’t seek this out and it is unwanted. However, in the past, I got more of this attention from strangers (of any gender) when my hair is bleached white blonde or fantasy colors at any length. Cis men who are into long hair (on women not themselves) kinda creep me out… like budding serial killer who really wants to cut the scalp off and display the long hair trophy on the wall?!?

Generally, I believe if long hair hair makes YOU confident, then that is what will attract people.

There's a long-time member here who introduced me to "I'm not here to beautify your world" and so questions like this send me off.

And Ylva, if you can simplify your message for dumb me, I'm glad to rethink.
I’m here with you on this one, personally - it’s clearly a lighthearted topic for OP but I don’t find it entertaining or super helpful in any way myself.

Thanks Baanoo. And to all, I love this place and didn't mean to be obnoxious, this just put a hitch in my getalong, so to speak, and I should have waited until I had better wording for what I meant.

I thought that too, until I made an IG account and put my profile picture on it. Man, every day about a dozen middle-aged men that want to friend me. It's like you have to be straight for these Nigerian scams. ROFL. Anyway, should you wonder; the pic is in my album, if there's people that can't see it, it's private, friend me and I might add you, no promises.

I'm only 30, but I must be really ugly because I hardly get messages like this.

I remember being a teen and wanting appearance based attention and when I started receiving it I was immediately over it (and I've only ever received polite attention from strangers). In terms of hair: my hair has been all lengths from shaved to knee. Up, down, nor length made a difference in the amount or type of public attention.

In terms of social media attention: if you don't want the bots contacting you, don't use a profile picture of a female face.

Mod hat off. Mod hat on. Don't make me wear the mod hat, it messes up my hair. *grin*

Perhaps they think (presume) only dumb looking middle aged broads will fall for their s***

The only place I got weird messages for having a personal picture in (and it was a cartoon avatar of me, not an actual picture) was on MySpace, so I deleted it. I also have a personal picture on Facebook, but no weird messages, and I've had my account for years (weird), but the only difference was with the Meez avatar, it was a sexy pirate costume of me with my old hair color next to a cartoon avatar of Capt. Jack from Pirates of the Caribbean, so perhaps that was the difference. My avatar on Facebook is just last year's Halloween costume; me dressed up as an employee of Jurassic Park, nothing sexy about the costume at all, since I'm all covered. I tried signing up for the new Myspace (Space Hey), but got too many friend requests from teenagers, so I deleted it (too much like MySpace, and I've moved on).

See, that's where I'm contrary (and I have quite the "streak" LOL ) and go, hey I'm not going to let *anyone* push me from a social media platform that I enjoy using. But every place is different. I might just as well have been anywhere else and just... gone away. I did so on FB. So I know what you mean!
