Default New here and happy to start my journey

    Hi,
I am finally a member and ready to start my hair journey. My hair is rather dry and type 3a/3b (it really depends on the day^-^)
I had longer hair as a young teen and then cut it of, because of some hair loss. After some attempts to grow it long I had given up and cut my hair to about chin length in November 2021. It then recovered nicely and after a few more trims, I decided I want to give it another go to maybe finally reach waist or tailbone length. I had classic lenght as a 4th grader so I hope, I can reach it again. I am a hairstylists daughter, who is also a long hair lover (she had salon specialised for long hair).I basically know what I need to do,but I tend to be impatient I really hope that by joining this community, I stay focused and patient throughout this attempt^-^.
As a musician I kinda need to do somethingwith my hair while performing, so I am super interested in half up dos and other protective hairstyles that really look nice.
Hope you all have a really nice start into the new week.

    Mira

P.S.: How long is your hair right now? I am curious^-^ and what is your favourite way of doing or protecting your hair?

    Welcome to the board!

My longest hair is well below my waist. I'm recovering from a massive hair loss a couple of years ago, at the start of the Covid mess. I have only recently been able to make secure updo styles as my length was too thin to hold even a lightweight hairstick. Very encouraging.
Opting out of Friend Requests, thank you very much!

    Welcome!

My mom used to be a hairdresser, which is why I usually go to her when I need a trim (though the odd time, even she had cut it a little too short) rather than going to a salon (the few times that I have gone, they've always listened to what I wanted, but one of my aunts once had a bad experience. She changed salons after that). My hair is currently at arm pit level (it was waist level when I joined, but got a couple of inches trimmed off since then, so I have to regrow it back). I didn't start growing my hair long until after high school, since I used to dye it a lot (black semi-permanent when I was about 13, then blonde in Grade 11 and golden brown and chestnut brown during my senior year) and left it alone for a while until it got more healthy (the last time I dyed it was in 2005, that was a darker red than my natural strawberry blonde, since I still had my old color at the time. It's now medium golden brown naturally, but my eyebrows are still my old color, since I don't think they fell out when I was going through chemo a few years back and neither did my eyelashes). I won't dye it again until I go gray/white (if that ever happens), since if the blonde in Grade 11 didn't suit me, neither will the gray/white (I have a warm complexion, so the only colors that washed me out were the blonde and the black, since they were probably cooler colors, all the others were warm tones, including my current color).

As for protective styles, I usually wear my hair back in a ponytail, since I don't like it down (and I don't like it short, so I'm not cutting it off anytime soon, screw the "age appropriate" hairstyles) and am too lazy to try any new styles (I have a holder for buns, but haven't used it since my hair was shorter. Basically, it's a long plastic apparatus that has a hole in the middle where you put your hair through and wind it up until your hair is in a bun and then you attach the two ends underneath. I don't know what the accessory is actually called). I also use the plastic hair clips that you can get at any store. I used to wear the bigger ones when it was longer (only have one left, since the other two broke) but now use the smaller ones to just hold a section of my hair back (to keep it out of my face).

Howdy, nice to meet you! Very cool that your mother was a long hair specialist. As to your questions, my hair is between knee and calf right now and I most frequently wear it in a nautilus bun (braided or plain).

Welcome. Hope you’ll enjoy your stay.

My hair's soon to graduate from MBL to WL, unless I start trimming again...

My go-to bun is the nautilus.
Because it's só easy and fast to do.

So I thought I put an update here: I tried to even out the harsh line of my semi-permanent hairdye with rather boldly section highlights. it works pretty well and complements my ashy tone. My length is still very gold/ginger, but I am fine with it. I have to be patient. I like my natural lighter hair with the highlights much more than the dark brown semi-permanent dye I had before.

Although it is not a lot of hair, I reached a little milestone of mine. Taking my hair wet and straight upfront it reaches below my chest area. Doesn't sound like much, but for me it is huge because before it either broke off or I did cut it, before it could reach that lenght. I have a lot of regrowth no, so I hope that with time, I can improve the edges, but so far I take the little long pieces and love them.
