I adore hair sticks!
I love to see other people’s hair sticks too. Please feel free to show us your single stick, pairs or entire collection all at once. Either store-bought or homemade….you can even show your hair styles here, with your sticks in hair! You may just want to discuss hair sticks and not show pics. All things hair stick are welcome!
I will start the thread by first showing my homemade pink hair sticks that I made earlier tonight, using wooden dowels, sand paper, pink crackle glass beads, pearlized pins, cutters, acrylic paint, a pencil sharpener and a glossy gel lacquer to make the sticks super smooth and shiny. Happy with how they turned out.
This is my entire collection of hair sticks. 1. A wooden dowel which I sharpened and sanded so I could practice buns and using a stick when I was first starting 2. An antler which a family member gave me (it's actually a dog's chew toy!) 3. Acrylic hair stick by Outnumbered Novelties acquired from the RAOK program 4. Acrylic hair stick by Lady Idun purchased from the Swap board when I was a true newbie
Thank you for starting this WhirlyGirly!

Oh you’re so welcome SandyBottom, love. Thank you so much for showing your lovely and unique collection. That curvy antler is way too cool! How special is that! 😱
The Lady Idun stick is super pretty, of course. She makes the best sticks EVER! They are so chunky, sturdy and strong. Her husband just made me 2 custom-made pairs that I’m waiting to receive. I can’t wait to get them!
Nice job on the homemade one too!
Ok so I’m having too much fun making homemade sticks and just finished making this pair this afternoon….
Oh what a wonderful thread!
I absolutely will enjoy that thread too, because I love hair sticks so much.
Regards
Fiorentina
A nice bun makes the day.
So glad you made it here, Florentina love! Hair sticks are AWESOME! It’s good to know that I’m not the only stick addict.
Made these cool holographic hair sticks today and loving the holographic rainbow shimmer. The effect is even more intense in the sunlight. I added different toppers for added charm and interest. Made these ones a tad shorter and used square-ish dowels. They were so much fun to create.
I went shopping a couple days ago and thought I’d pop into Claire’s. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had 2 styles of hair sticks so I bought both! So pretty. Check them out. The tortoise shell ones are super cute. 👇
Love the metallic-gold floral pattern on these Chinese-looking, dark-brown wooden ones…
Oh and recently, I got these two 5 and 1/2 inch hair sticks from WoodEverIImagine, called, Ruby Nugget Chip and Pink Pebble
The shorter sticks will come in handy for half-up dos.
I think I’ve found a great way to store my large and growing collection of hair sticks, which I will show a bit later when I get it all together.
Lastly, I’d just like to say….
Ok thank you Braided Lady for the head’s up.
I kinda figured they weren’t too strong and could snap with too much tension and pressure. I have other thin types like these below, that I’m very careful with also.
My hair has broken many a hairbrush even, so I won’t underestimate these flimsy sticks. I mostly use them just to gently push through my hair that is already secured with something else, simply for charm & decor.
