You could simply get yourself some wooden dowels and sand them down smooth and then just paint them in a color you love. You can use varnish or lacquer or even clear nail polish after they are painted, to make them glide through hair like a breeze. Just use a pencil sharpener to make a pointed end. Very easy and fun too. You don’t have to put beads on the ends of the sticks if you don’t want to, but I love the added bling.

Oh Dear, I don't think I would be able to create nice sticks, I am better in knitting or sewing.

Ok so here are my new 6” canarywood hair sticks that arrived today from OutNumberedNovelties! They will be great for days when I want something simple and less flashy. I really like them. A bit short for my big hair but I’ll make them work. The wood is so cool.







Ok and here is a shot of the first pair of hair sticks I made, in a double french twist style. Love how they look in my hair. And I really appreciate how long they are (10”).

Canarywood looks really nice to me, Whirly Girly Love. I need to learn more about that wood.Will see what i find about in with google.
Your hairdo is great as always.

Ok so this is how I’m storing all my hair sticks…with cork board tiles! It’s the same way I keep my flexi clip collection on a bulletin board….so nothing gets scratched or damaged.


I will love that I can see them all at once and just grab a stick off the boards, that matches my mood on any given day. Every stick has it own little spot.


I got these 12” x 12” cork tiles at Staples….they came in a 4-pack. A great way to organize your sticks, if you have many, and it will keep them scratch-free.


I will need to hang up a third board soon, because my collection is growing. Haha! My goodness, I could rent them out, I have so many now. ��






Now it’s time to finish off my latest homemade sticks and then get my butt to bed. Oh who am I kidding…I’ll likely be up the night. Hopefully not but I sometimes get insomnia.

By the way I found out that canary wood is growing in Brazil and Bolivia

Ok so here are my finished homemade hair sticks. Painted these with a stunning metallic emerald paint and did two coats of glossy gel lacquer so they are smooth as silk. Enjoying the color-shifting bead toppers.









This is just too much fun.

Oh yes, Whirly Girly Dear, green is always nice especially emerald green.
You really hav fun as I see.

I’m really liking how these latest sticks I made, look in my hair. The color-shifting beads are so iridescent in the light.

It was hard to capture the true shades of the colors with this camera….on these sticks I made tonight but the picture of them in my hair, is the most accurate. They are much more pretty in person though.


I think these might be my favorite yet. I used peach, plum and a gorgeous metallic gold paint called “14 karat gold”. I really like how these look in my hair. The colors are so fab and the big bead toppers are so blingy.

I think these gold sticks I made earlier, are my new favorites.


These pictures do them no justice at all. They are unbelievably dazzling in person. I’m so in love with this “14 karat gold” metallic paint…it’s so lustrous and enchanting. What a paint! 😱 I have it in a shiny silver too.









I have another pair of sticks drying as we speak. I’ll show them a bit later when they’re finished.


My goodness hair-stick-making is so addictive. My mom and a friend also want me to make them some.

Oh and I forget to add this to my last post. I solved the problem of dust on my hair toys on my cork boards…. picked up this ostrich-feather duster yesterday. Lol.

Whirly Girly Now you have an easy way to remove unwanted dust.
Wait! Was I saying "unwanted dust"? Well dust is always unwanted....

Just an assortment of sticks some of which I created by adding toppers to flat clear acrylic.
There are also some commercial sticks included
