Welcome, bparnell75!
Good Heaven’s those are some wonderful hair sticks! Nice work! Thank you so much love, for sharing. I so enjoy pictures.
There’s just something that appeals to me so much about handmade hair sticks….or hair pins, as my mom calls them.
Now do you sell your sticks or just make them for yourself? I’m only interested in making them for me and friends, just for funzies. I find it relaxing and satisfying. I’m also enjoying having a ton of hair sticks to wear!
That stick you traded with Lady Idun, reminds me of one I got recently from her, called “Abalone blue”. It’s one of my favorites….
Just got a new pair of hair sticks in the mail today….I’ll get a shot for you guys shortly. Plus I’m working on two new pairs of homemade sticks as we speak. Can’t wait to share. This thread is so much fun.
Bparnell75, I think I missed a few of your posts and forgot to turn the page. OMGosh, spectacular work! You are obviously a colossal hair stick lover too! You must have a lot of fun making your beautiful hair sticks. I’m so glad you shared your awesome pictures with us. I’m gonna go back and take time spying them all and noticing the gorgeous details. They’re all just so amazing.
I’m still a little bedazzled from the amazing pictures bparnell75 just posted but I’ll try to pull myself together here.
Ok so I made these hair pins tonight using red and black paint. I’m so pleased with how they turned out, with the pretty red rose toppers. I have a black dress with small red roses on it and these sticks will be perfect to wear with it.
Your homemade hairsticks are dazzling! What fun! If you don't mind me making a suggestion, some of your sticks look blunt-tipped. If you sand the tips more to a tapered shape before painting, they will be more hair friendly and look professional. I know even professional hair stick makers don't always do that, but the best makers seem to make them pointy.
It’s a good suggestion sapphire-o hun and if I were selling these, I certainly would make them pointier or even ask the buyer how they prefer their tips to be.…but I actually sand the pointy tips down deliberately because when they’re too pointy, they scratch my scalp and feel too sharp. Surprisingly though, they slide into and through my hair with ease. I think it’s just a personal preference but I get what you mean and I can see how others may like their’s pointy for sure. It’s all good.
I also think pointy sticks would make a great weapon to defend myself with, should I ever need to. I read somewhere that many years ago, women used their hair sticks to do just that. If someone attacked them, they would just pull their hair stick out of their hair and….well you can imagine the rest! Haha!
Oh I forgot earlier, to show these stunning mirror gold sticks I got from Blue Heron Jewelery yesterday. Ordered them a couple weeks ago and they finally arrived yesterday. These are gonna be perfect for my dressy occasions. I’m a gold freak. I love silver too but it somewhat clashes with my hair.
Anyway, here they are. A bit short but I’ll make them work.
Oh and I found some halloween beads at Michael’s and made some sticks with them. I will get shots tomorrow for sure.
Thank you for the compliments... I have given away probably over hundred including some I have given away to strangers with beautiful hair. I have also sold just a few.
I think you should also visit the self made hair toy thread. I have made lots with metal chopsticks by cutting them down and adding toppers.
