Also, Whirly Girly, I ended up getting a pair of sticks from OutNumberedNovelties instead because yours looked sooo smooth and elegant. I got a pair of red wood ones. I don't know why I'm buying them.. my hair is only shoulder length!!! One day, I would also like to make my own!! Or even ones to sell on my etsy shop. I have some wood that I bought to make wands but maybe I'll use it to make hair sticks instead Yours turned out so nice!! Your hair is so thick and SHINY, those long sticks are perfect for you.

Oh that’s a shame that you don’t get to enjoy hair sticks much. You can even just insert them into your up-dos for decoration, even if they are not technically holding your hair and are not a bun. I also found out last night that you can even use a hair stick to hold a pony tail! Who knew!

Unfortunately, I don't really wear updos, period... having my hair up tends to give me a headache. The only time my hair goes "up" is for the gym (no hair stick needed or wanted-- could get damaged), for the shower (I use DPNs as hair sticks), or into Heidi braids-- wouldn't work with a hair stick! I'd love to be able to do buns and such but I just can't most of the time. I've stuck a decorative stick into the top of my braid before, but it can be a bit awkward.

I love your "stick board." Such a great idea.

I likely won’t sell any hair sticks I make but I would surely make someone a pair for free. I find it relaxing to make them and I can complete a pair inside of two hours. Letting the paint dry is the longest part. I actually made another pair this evening and I think they are my favorite yet. I will show pictures right after this post.


You should definitely get into making some hair sticks. It’s just too fun and I love picking out the paints and toppers that appeal to me. It’s gonna be great having so many pretty sticks to wear this summer. It’s brutally hot here in summertime with some days reaching as high as 115 F along with mugginess that nearly kills you….so wearing my hair up is necessity on most summer days.


Thank you for the kind words about my hair. I like some sticks to be longer because some styles swallow up the sticks and you can’t even see them….so longer works best for big buns and other wide dos.

Hey, nobody says you gotta have crazy long hair to wear hair sticks. My mom has shoulder-length hair and she’s caught the hair stick bug now too….no thanks to me!

Ok yes Kat hun, I totally get what you’re saying. I know other people who get bad headaches from up-dos…and some too, who get headaches from metal hair toys. I used to get headaches from high buns but I wanted to wear them so bad that I suffered through it and I think my head toughened up and got used to the weight of my hair because I don’t get them anymore.


Thank you about my cork boards holding my sticks. I love how easily accessible they are now. I have those two boards in my bathroom, behind the door….only spot in there for them really because my bathroom is very small.

It was hard to capture the true shades of the colors with this camera….on these sticks I made tonight but the picture of them in my hair, is the most accurate. They are much more pretty in person though.


I think these might be my favorite yet. I used peach, plum and a gorgeous metallic gold paint called “14 karat gold”. I really like how these look in my hair. The colors are so fab and the big bead toppers are so blingy.

Those are some lovely forks and hair sticks….very nice. Love the adorable bat stick…..perfect for Halloween. Coincidently, I was just mentioning in another thread, that I would love to find some sticks to wear in October for Halloween. I might even make some. Perhaps I can find some pumpkin beads at some point.


That wooden hair fork is gorgeous. i have one but I find it very small. At some point, I’m gonna buy a GIANT wood fork.


That green stick you have looks like my “color me Irish” stick I recently got from Etsy. Here it is….

I got mine off of Etsy as well! The bat stick is a cake tester. Lol. I love it though. I can't wear them atm because my hair is too short, but I look forward to when I can!

I love acrylic sticks, because I don't have to be too careful with them & was reminded about LadyIdun sticks through this thread but I discovered that they don't ship to Germany anmyore and now I'm heartbroken.
And it seems like other sellers from "back in the day" like - what was his name Eaduardo? - don't even exist anymore? What am I going to do about aquiring new sticks.

Looked on Etsy a little bit and there's not really much variety & different lengths in colors I like (need shorter ones for now), I didn't expect that. OutnumberedNovelties & 1 German maker seem to be my only options, but maybe I just have to go deeper into the rabbit-hole.

Haha, hey why not! I actually saw some swizzle stir sticks I also thought would make great hair sticks, so I don’t blame you hun. I would have kept those too….so darn adorable.

Oh that’s so disappointing, indeed. Sorry to hear it Aeryss love. Maybe there’s a way to work it out. Perhaps you could ask Lady Idun if you could pay her but have her mail the sticks to a friend you trust in the USA or Canada, and then that friend could forward them to you in Germany? It’s an idea. I would do that for you even but I know you don’t know me. Maybe you know someone else who would be happy to do this for you.

I think these gold sticks I made earlier, are my new favorites.


These pictures do them no justice at all. They are unbelievably dazzling in person. I’m so in love with this “14 karat gold” metallic paint…it’s so lustrous and enchanting. What a paint! 😱 I have it in a shiny silver too.









I have another pair of sticks drying as we speak. I’ll show them a bit later when they’re finished.
