Lol, kinda messy but I really like how these ones I made, look in my hair. The dangly beads are so pretty. I need to make another pair like this. I have an event to go to this weekend and I was thinking these would look nice with a black dress. If my new sticks don’t arrive before then, that is.

Made these 3 gold starfish sticks, specifically to use in my three-bun-french-twist, shown below.

Those gold sticks really compliment your hair and suit you, Whirly Girly. And that three-bun hairstyle is stunning

Oh thank you so much Nefcerka love….so kind of you to comment. I love that 3-bun-do….it’s so easy and fun to do…and looks like you spent way more time than you actually did.

I read the whole thread! …but I guess I took too long and it deleted my “checkmark” replies *moue* ...but from what I can remember…

SandyBottom, that is so clever how you thought to use a pencil sharpener! I’m going to have to use that trick! The flamey-red Idun is so pretty and the “dog toy” antler is really neat. I wonder if I can find one at Petco…the antler ones are really expensive on Etsy!

PumpkinSage, I’d never seen a crystal CLEAR Lady Idun unicorn horn! It’s *SO* pretty! I guess I better stalk her Etsy store now *laughing smile* Or get up the courage to ask for a custom…the resin sticks are gorgeous, too!

KameRose, you have such a huge collections of sticks! How do you ever decide which one to wear every morning? I have such a hard time deciding things…I’d get lost looking at them every morning *grin* Dinosaurs! Axes! Too cool! I have those parrots, too *heart* I think it’s cool how you have them in vases. It looks really pretty that way.

I tried the double French twist and it *felt* like I had it and I was so excited until I turned around with another mirror and it looks like a big tree knot *doubles over in laughter* I tried it again without doubling the length, but then the second twist turned into a circle?! And the first twist was too thin…it looks like this will take a while to master. It looks so amazing on you, Whirly Girly!

BParnell75, I love all your sticks, but that silver stick looks like a Vivienne Westwood design! It’s gorgeous! I’ve never seen your ovals before and they look really neat, too! I love the Wind Song Attic twisty sticks. They are gorgeous. I think only Dragomira Haarschmuck sells those now. They cost an arm and leg even without shipping *sigh* If they ever list a pink one…I’m so on it *determined* Your squiggly bamboo sticks are adorable. They looks like they need wistful eyes *smilies*

Kome, the bat one is so adorable! And the rainbow one is so cool! Where did you get them from?

Fiorentina, I love the circle of green sticks *big grin* I see the first Elymwold in the thread! And a mossy transparent unicorn horn! That looks really cool. I guess I better be looking at unicorn horns. The first Timberstone Turnings, too! I adore the ivory and green colors, they look so soothing together. I don’t think I’ve seen most of those Lady Idun colors before. They’re really nice.

Oh, and your sticks are amazing, Whirly Girly! How do you dry them without getting the paint to stick on anything? Do you use nails to attach the beads to the sticks? I love your colors (especially the sparkly ones!) and your wrapping technique for the ribbons is amazing! They are so evenly spaced! The custom Lady Iduns are so pretty, too! I love the pink flower bud ones. I’m so inspired to make some! I have some pearlescent acrylic from years ago…I hope it’s not dried up… I don’t know that I have nails to stick the beads on…or even decent beads. I haven’t been to Michael’s in ages. Sounds like it’s time for an order from Fire Mountain Beads for me *glee* They had this pack of mixed pink glass beads I was eyeing for my viking outfit. I think they would look lovely on a stick, too. Oh the ideas…but to be honest, I’m not that great with the “physical dexterity” and “not getting paint all over the house” parts of crafting…hmm…

Thank you all for the eye candy and ideas! I’m so energized right now (if you could see me, there’d be stars in my eyes, I swear!)!

So sorry for the late reply, Aithne love. Life has just been ridiculously busy these days. Thank you so much for taking time out of your life, to make such friendly and kind comments to everyone. You’re such a little doll. Thank you for your compliments, support and encouragement of me too, hun.

Yes the pencil sharpener is a great way to get that sharp point on homemade hair sticks…..but if you don’t like them too pointy and sharp, you can always sand the tip down on sand paper, like I do. It’s just a matter of personal preference. I actually use an electric sharpener I had saved in my desk drawer from my school days. Very fast and easy. You just stick the stick in and it does all the work.

Ok as for my sticks, i use a tack on the end 📌 so I can paint the entire stick all at once with glossy gel and hold the stick by the tack when curing in my UV nail lamp. I drill thin holes on one end of each stick. For drying the painted sticks initially, I tie a twist-tie around the tack and then twist the tie around my indoor arbor so it suspends in the air, untouched while drying. Easy peasy.

I cannot use nails for the beads unfortunately, because even the thinnest of nails won’t fit through the bead holes….so I use stiff gold wire from Michaels. They have silver too. I glue the wire down into the holes in the sticks, and then put the beads on with more glue to secure everything nicely.

Sounds like you already have some great supplies to get you started on making yourself a pair of sticks. Go for it! It’s way too much fun and wearing them in your hair, knowing you made them yourself, is nothing short of awesome! I have so many people asking me where I bought them. The looks on people’s faces when I say “I made them” is priceless.

Oh and as for the french twist, don’t give up. So many styles that people think I do so nicely, looked like absolute crap when I first started. Seriously though. It’s all the failures that actually lead you to successfully mastering hair-dos. Practice, practice, practice.

I’ve made some more single sticks here and there, using holographic nail foils, which are fascinating to me right now. The shine is just unbelievable. I’ll do a new post shortly.

My new rhinestone hair sticks arrived yesterday!

They couldn’t get here fast enough for me. I was like a kid waiting for Christmas 😂

These sticks are just too glamorous. They are my absolute favorite hair sticks now, bar none. Hard to capture the bling in pictures but in person, they shine like a disco ball. Beyond dazzling.

I got this “Chocolate Diamond” pair….

    And these “Ice Pink” ones…

Frankly, in pictures they look mediocre. In person, they shine like diamonds. I’m getting 2 more pairs soon because she didn’t have them quite yet. They are called “Iridescent” and “Gold”. She has every color imaginable. I will have to stop myself from ordering them all.

Just a few shiny single sticks I made with nail foils. They’re so shiny in person, that I feel like toppers actually take away from them so I just left these plain.

    Lovely!!!!
Putting it in my signature because I have to say it so often:
Do what works for your hair, not what other people say is "right" or "wrong." If it works for you, it's not wrong. If it doesn't work for you, it's not right.

I find using the camera flash sometimes really distorts the color with the nail foil sticks because they are so ridiculously shiny like a mirror.

    Made these ones too….
