Hey! It seems like our hair could be quite alike.

I’m afraid I’ve been lurking for some time - social anxiety is a pain! But, I’ve been inspired and want to start my journey after I recently went from waist back to BSL because of severe dryness and damage.

A little bit of background: I’m from rural England and a natural redhead. I used to be bullied terribly for it but, in my 30s, I’ve decided to embrace it! I’ve been trapped in a vicious cycle for some time of growing it to roughly the waist band on my dress, finding it deteriorates about a month after I hit my goal and my hopes for a ‘trim’ end up being a fairly drastic cut. I have incredibly baby fine hair, prone to frizz (it looks a mess when I air dry). I thought it was straight but I’m starting to think it’s slightly wavy. I’d love to learn of others in the same position as me. My current routine is silicone free, daily washing (fine hair and diagnosed OCD are not a good combination - I literally get jittery if I don’t feel clean), about to go sulphate free at least some of the week, but use a gentle Oway ‘frequent use’ shampoo and conditioner. I wrap it in a microfibre towel, put serum on the ends and then dry it with a hairdryer about 80 percent of the way on the cold setting before using the hot setting for a minute (as far away from my head as I can manage). If I go heat free, I plait my hair and it gives gentle waves. I’m always on the lookout for other heat free styles for BSL hair and open to any inspiration! I sleep in a silk cap currently since my last cut. My goal is back to waist and beyond, but this time healthy!

Apart from hair related stuff, I love cats (I have a ginger moggie called Ollie!), rock music (big fan of Muse and live for gigs), video games (I have a Switch) and countryside walks, where I normally end up taking loads of pictures!

Anyway, it’s lovely to meet you!
Hi, welcome. I'm new to the forum. I love cats too. We have 3, but I belong to a giant fluffy gentle wise affectionate Ragdoll. I also have a pompom puppy and a giant house rabbit old man. I love Muse too. And photography. I live in rural Scotland. Good luck with your hair journey.

It's great that you're embracing your natural red hair and starting a new hair journey. Given your fine and frizz-prone hair, using silicone-free and sulfate-free products is a good choice. Consider incorporating deep conditioning treatments to address dryness and damage. Since your hair has some wave, try using products for wavy hair and scrunching to enhance the waves. For heat-free styles, plaiting your hair or using foam/fabric curlers can create beautiful waves or curls. Combining photography with your countryside walks can be a fun way to capture memories. Enjoy the process and feel free to ask if you have more questions. Good luck on your healthy hair journey!
