At this point I haven't trimmed in so long I sometimes forget trimming even exists...in other words, it's going good so far!
My hairs hanging on by a thread because I had to strip a dye job gone wrong somehow I almost got it back to the brightness it was before but it is that over processed stringiness when wet in places.
Usually that's when I shave it all off and start over but not this time. I told myself this is my last year at trying to grow long if I can't do it this year I'll give up

That looks like some nice growth, Bat!
If it helps, think of your damaged hair as a buffer for the new hair that's growing in.
One month down! Only 11 more to go.![]()
Hurray! I've reached waist-land! Last trim 1-2-23.Lady Roxanne,Keeper of the Caprines 🐐in the order of the Long Haired Knights.
I’m determined to try to stay in this challenge this year. I’ve failed the last 2 yearly ones, succumbing to a trim to even up the ends.
At the end of this challenge, I should be only 3 inches left from my goal length.![]()

I would say focus on getting some growth first, then decide based on what your hair is doing. If it's literally crumbling you could lose length from the bottom and maintaining (at say chin or shoulder) could be good, but if it's doing alright there's no need to cut it off right away.
