I shead small hair monsters every wash day. It's been like this for years and I haven't gone bald or lost any thickness. It's normal.
I shed a small hedgehog every wash. LOL! I definitely understand!
    But it's all perfectly normal.

When I'm more thorough with my shampooing I do lose more hair - I've found for my scalp that manipulation = shedding - BUT I then don't lose any hairs the following day. It starts up again with just a few the second day after a wash and gradually increases until the Big Shed on wash day again. I comb thoroughly the night before (lose a fair amount), then before the pre-poo conditioner (lose some more) and finally in the shower with conditioner (lose a medium amount or a lot, depending on whether more or less came out the previous couple of combings).
Length goal well and truly met, now just seeing how it grows ...
Picky scalp but easygoing hair, thank goodness

I'm echoing the opinion of others. The hairs that are shed during shampooing are hairs that have reached the end of the growth cycle and are going to shed out anyway, no matter what. If you were pulling them out before their time, it would hurt. We aren't usually aware of how many hairs we shed out during the day because they slip away during combing or whenever your hair is loose. Recently I was cleaning the floor behind my crafting table and found enough of my hair to knit a baby me. O.k., maybe not that many, but it was a LOT. I had no idea I was shedding out hair while sitting at my crafting table. So whether you see the hairs on wash day or later clog the vacuum cleaner with them or sweep them up, they were meant to shed out.
