I definitely think combing more gently is a great idea! Maybe as well as an oil I'd suggest using a leave-in conditioner.
I'm not liking the amount of frizz I'm getting on my canopy - is that damage? I think it is at least somewhat, in my case. I've decided to make a few changes to my routine since it's been so long since my hair was this length that I need to start treating it right or it's not going to look its best.
1. Braiding at night. I'm fairly uncomfortable with my hair being 'contained' in any way when I sleep, but I'm giving this a try. Preliminary results (2 nights) seem promising on reducing my hair's "poof volume" and frizz, so I'll keep it up if that's the case. I'm reserving judgement for when I see how my hair looks the day after a fresh wash.
2. Combing much more gently. Although I don't encounter any really stubborn tangles, I think that I'm probably causing more damage than I realize just by combing through quickly. I've started finger-combing out the nape hair (most prone to tangling for me) before gently taking my time with the rest.
3. Back to scalp washes! Okay, this is actually an increase in washing for me, because my hair is a giant oil slick. I've been doing once or twice a week shampooing for the past year and a bit, and my scalp is hating it. My ends, however, were bleached previously and need more pampering and less washing (I never shampoo my ends anyway). Last time I had uber long hair, I was scalp washing to keep all of my hair happy, so I'm trying it out again.
4. Oiling my length. My poor fried hair needs a little TLC and coconut oil seems to help it look a little more like hair and a little less like straw. This is new to me because I never liked any oil I tried before, but I was probably a bit too heavy-handed with it.
Of course, I use satin pillowcases and put my hair up during the day. I use a wide-toothed wooden comb, my hair likes cones, and I still have a bit of Olaplex to use up and then I'll probably have to splurge for some more.
Any other suggestions? This much frizz/damage/bleached hair is new to me and it's been a lot of years since my hair was looooong.

Frizz could also be an indicator of more texture. Maybe try a hair typing photo to see if things have changed?
Length goal well and truly met, now just seeing how it grows ...
Picky scalp but easygoing hair, thank goodness
Since I had my first baby, my hair started going wavy. 2a, maybe? But only below about chin level, so it's only noticeable when I grow my hair out long. Not sure what that's all about. It basically looks like braid waves. My hair is actually even more wavy than this now, more like a 2b or 2c on the lower half/two-thirds. I don't know what to type my hair as now!
ETA: My hair is post-wash day 1, so the waves have calmed to a dull roar of 1b(?) again. I don't know what to make of this hair. But I got a recent photo:

For hair typing the instructions are to wash, then air dry without touching or stylers or other manipulation (having it in a towel for a bit is fine as long as it's not plopped, rubbed, or anything like that, just squeeze water out keeping the hair in the way it lays).
So your photo here is helpful to see how your hair is just in general, but to get an accurate type you would need to follow the instructions in the hair typing guide https://forums.longhaircommunity.com...d.php?t=116252
Is it all bleached or are the roots your natural colour?

When I do a post shampoo oil its obvious that I have oil in my hair for a while and then it seems to disappear. Leaving behind frizz free hair.
But of course this is all hair and oil dependent. Nonetheless, based on your photo I think you might be able to get away with a bit more oil.
Grow grow grow, where it stops no body knows.
I really think that these are some excellent suggestions and an excellent routine to follow! I would also suggest to you that try washing your hair once or twice a week during the winter months, and 2 or 3 times a week during the spring and summer months. That's what I've done to change up my routine as well. Because, I also wasn't liking the way my hair was looking and feeling either.
