What do you consider a "chop?"

How much hair taken off in inches would you consider a chop, and not a trim?

I can't decide whether I would consider 3" as a chop. I think it depends on the individual, so I wanted to see what others thought.

Roughly 2 inches, hesitated between 2 & 3, but 2 is like 5 cm and quite a bit already. There is the chop thread around here, for those "feeling" like the amount they're going to cut off is too much to be a trim. Let me link it for you guys!

It's like an entire "choppers" club. LOL! I consider myself belonging there some of the time, because, after all, to maintain classic, I *am* removing roughly 6 inches a year.

I think it depends on the state of the hemline being removed. If the ends are for example very raggedy (aka fairytailed) then cutting back to where the hair is more dense would be to my mind more of a "trim" than would the same length cut off from a fuller hemline which would be a "chop". So I didn't vote

I agree. To me a chop means a really significant lop from the shortest hairs, not just making a hemline even.

A chop for me is going from one + milestones to a shorter one like I went from shoulder to chin, then gradually got trims to go above chin

I'd say a chop is around 10cm or between half a year and a year of growth

I agree with this... I voted 3" but was thinking 3" from the shortest part of the hem, not from the longest.

In general, I consider anything around the 5-10 cm (2-4") range a chop/cut, anything longer(or maybe shorter?) would be a "big chop". But it depends on other things too, the longer your hair the closer it'd go to 10 cm for me to consider it a cut, on short hair 5 cm is a lot of hair but not so much when you're classic+.

Also, regardless of your length if you are cutting more than your growth in that period of time it's definitely a cut for me, say you grew 3 cm in 3 months and you cut 4 cm then that's a cut.

I couldn't pick because my head contextualizes a "chop" as a percentage of the total. If your hair is 24 inches long and you remove 6 of them, that's a lot different than having hair at knee length and cutting back to mid-thigh. I'd say around 20-25%+ of total length removed puts into legitimate "chop" territory to me.
