I went back and read all of her blog posts, and she never said anything about leaving, which leaves me to think this was an impulsive decision.

Maybe, but unpicking her last post in the pictures thread makes me think frustrations have been bubbling for a while. She's frequently taken time away from here because LHC wasn't good for her mental/emotional health, and perhaps there was something (absolutely no idea what) that was the last straw Someone's post history won't always indicate anything either, because they may well have refrained from engaging with topics that trouble them.

Whatever the exact reason(s), I hope jane_marie has found relief in her decision.
