I believe that semi-permanent hair color will not lighten your natural hair color.
Cassia would probably work. I used it on dyed hair for conditioning treatment. I loved is, m hair was shinier and seems stronger.
Catnip also gives a nice shine to hair and at least for me my hair was less prone to breakage.

I love the idea of having a flower tea in my mister bottle. Seems ultra luxurious to me. I have both dried organic marigold and roses on the way. Excited.
My Cassia did not come with directions. Yikes! I have no idea how to mix it up. Is there a recipe???
Just put it in a bowl, make a hole in the middle, and slowly add hot water (boiling or not, not sure, someone else will have to answer that) then mix it in until you get the consistency of mash. Personally I would not make it runnier or you can't endure that on your head for at least a half hour (preferably longer).
I just did the same with my cassia as my henna (30 min.) but that is way too short amount a time for a lot of people here.
Hope others jump in here!!!
I'm following this with interest! I have a major gray streak and it would be fun to do something with it. I think about trying to turn it green but I've never pursued the idea.

Isn't there a cool website on here that teaches how to mix up henna and cassia?
Very Victorian.
Hey, nmgdolly, I can help!
Nightblooming's website covers how to mix up herbs for coloring here.
She has several graphics that go step by step for mixing up herbal color mixes. Step 1, Step 2.
That is pretty much the exact process I use, even if there is no henna in my mix. (I'm not entirely sure, even after years of using cassia/senna, if it truly requires time for dye release like henna does...? But I let it sit an hour or so anyway before using.) After Ive let it sit (if you're letting it sit) I add in conditioner at that step. It doesn't really affect the color in my experience, and it makes the cassia/senna mud much easier to wash out. (In my experience cassia/senna is harder to wash out than henna, and sedr is the worst lol)
Oh, when you add liquid, like she does in the example, you can absolutely use herbal teas. Catnip tea will help stain the hair more yellow, and it helps to keep the hair less frizzy in my experience, so I always steep some and use that as my liquid in my mix, along with other herbs.
Hope that helps.
