If your hair is shorter, try a bob instead.

Oooooh clever!! I really like that the ends are still protected but it gives the illusion of hair down. I've seen pics and read the description before but it never quite clicked how to do it or just how cool it is! I shall have to procure some claw clips but I wonder if spin pins would work if the bun were a cinnabun type, or a flexi for a more structured LWB-type
Growing back to definite-calf length with hopefully some semblance of a hemline.
Picky scalp but easygoing hair, thank goodness

This would be lovely with victory rolls in the half up section.

Oh dear. Ohhhh dear. This would work better on straight, sleek hair. I'll spare you the front view, which looks on me like a mullet, or possibly like a poodle.

One of the fun things for me is that this doubles my hair thickness.

@AmaryllisRed - I did this many years ago with either extra wavy hair from braids or possibly even rag curls. I thought it looked fantastic. Wore it to work and my boss took one glance at me and freaked that I'd actually cut my hair.

I find that there are two downsides to this style. 1) the bun eventually slips down and 2, the hairs that are not quite long enough to reach the bun eventually work themselves loose from the mass and hang down past the loop, which looks a little silly.
