    Default Avocado hair mask

I'm sure this has been talked about somewhere on this forum, but right now I don't have time to check. Can anyone tell me if an avocado mixed with fresh coconut milk would be a good deep conditioner for my fine, straight, thin APL hair?

I am afraid it might be too rich for my hair, too heavy. I don't want it to look greasy and stringy when all is said and done. My hair is in pretty good shape, but I want to give it a deep conditioning boost!

    Thanks!

What are you trying to achieve? If you are hoping to reduce porosity and increase elasticity with the penetrating fatty acids in coconut and avocado it would make more sense to use the oils straight up. The hair cannot utilise most of the components in coconut milk or whole avocado since they are too large to slip under the cuticle, and it could be a pain to wash out. Neat oils should be applied to dry hair - oil and water dont mix - the excess comes out well with conditioner only washing.

Technically your proposed mix would not be a conditioner, that would need to contain the major emollients (fatty alcohols and cationic surfactants).

Hi Berlie. On New Years I wanted to give my hair extra sheen. My solution was to do a treatment using coconut milk with a few drops of olive oil and a tiny bite of honey the mixture was placed it on my dry hair for about 30 mins before rinsing and washing it out throughly. My plan worked because my hair was sparkling all night long. My hair is also in the finer side so as long as it gets cleaned and rinsed throughly you shouldn't have any issues. I'd just eat the avocado.

I use coconut oil and avocado oil on my ends often, just easier and less messy than using the whole avocado. It works great for me but my ends are damaged from bleach and heat. I've never tried coconut milk though, I wonder if the benefits would be better than the oil?

I have very fine hair too! I've used whole avocados and bananas when they're getting to ripe and nobody plans on eating them. I blend up an avacado with a small ammount of water until it's a completely smooth paste, this will wash out easier. Any chunks will give you a horrible time. It may not be very scientific, but it does give the hair a nice shine. I prefer bananas for this though because they seem less oily. I started doing this as a teenager because I hoped the potassium was good for hair lol. I think at the end of the day it feels nice and makes my hair feel nice so why not. I'd just start by trying half an avacado and see if it makes you too greasy.
